i heard off a podcast show on mousetunes that mgm and disney's contract is running out and they probaly will not renew it is this true??If so the studios will be called disney studios and the mgm will be taken out :confused3

That's the rumor that is floating around. It has a certain poetic injustice: not long after booting the animation studio out of the park so there's nothing left but attractions, Disney renames the place The Disney Studios. Go figure.

They've been persuading people to call it Disney Studios since 1999 - people can't help but call it MGM -

Maybe Disney should rename the Disney/Mgm Studios to Florida Adventure since there is No Studios Production anymore at Disney/Mgm.

Well, this rumor has been around for over 6 years. I'll believe it when I see it. We just got back from our monthly trip, and all the advertising materials on property still refer to it as Disney/MGM studios. Who knows for sure? :confused3

"MGM" doesn't even exist anymore since Sony bought them. It's only a matter of time...

It's true that it's not an actual ANIMATION studio, BUT the park is a replication of a studio and there are soundstages backstage where films and TV shows are actually filmed as well.

That will not work. They are already planning that for the 5th park. They are going to use the chunk of land across form the Epcot parking lot. They figure it should be pretty cheap. Add a few turnstiles, throw in a few Canadian seniors, and throw up a sign...

Welcome to Florida Adventure!!!

Understand it to be another wildlife park.......relocated allegators, snakes, Nile lizard etc. The fun part is ....... blaze your own trail. A small DEET will sell for 25.00. AP holders will get a 10% discount. Military personnel will get in free under a contract agreement with Disney. They will be given credit for going thru partial jungle survival training. A training film is being produced featuring survival expert Donald Duck.

I know you were joking, but as a side note, they are not planning a 5th park anymore at all - they're going to concentrate on the 4 opened and neglected ones first. AK is in need of additions (compared to the other parks, it's empty), World Showcase in Epcot is in dire need of updating and refurbishing (it's been the same for 11 years except for the Outpost addition which is incredibly pointless), Disney Studios has some really boring rides and shows that need great updating (Backlot Tour is terrible without the 2nd part, Lights Moteur Action is terrible in general, GMR needs updating BADLY, Sounds Dangerous needs to be turned into something a little...no, a LOT better, and something needs to go into the ABC Soundstage)

They've decided a 5th park is not the best idea. And I believe it's in their best interest. Plus CA Adventure is horrible, if they made a FL Adventure - they'd lose so much money. No families go to Disney for an entire park of Thrill Rides - if you want that, there's at least 3 other parks in the area to choose from. This is a family resort - theming a park based on thrill rides alone excludes all families with young children, and/or people who do not like these kind of rides. It would be a very very bad move. Luckily Iger is smarter than Eisner and pulled this tentative move immediately!

The plan is to put all the alligators in one spot. At this spot will be sign reading 'Guest Services'. Anyone with a complaint will be directed here.

JRawkSteady - I fully support this direction from WDW. Within time a 5th park may be an option, but lets wait awhile (10-15 years perhaps). In the meantime lets make the current parks even better.

Personally, I actually enjoy California Adventure. Though I admit that it is far from being the best park and the theme is a stupid idea (hence my Florida Adventure scenario).

Remember, it could always be worse. I will take California Adventure any day over the Disney Studios in Paris.

I heard it was going to be the Nile Lizard. Meaner!!!!!!!

It was mentioned by someone here once, but I think it would be great if instead of renaming it Walt Disney Studios, they went with Disney-ABC Studios. It has the same style name as the current Disney-MGM Studios, yet could involve Disney's main television network. The park already has some TV iteams in it, why not make it geared towards both movies and television. They could promote both their network and their park through each other, and add some classic TV iteams already owned by the Disney company.

When I worked for the CP a few years ago they were very picky about it either being the Disney Studios or Disney MGM Studios, never MGM like most people say. My former roommate still works at WDW and she told me just a few days ago that they've started removing the MGM part from the promotional material and from parts of the Park.

MGM certainly does exist, just as United artist existed under MGM, and Columbia Tri-star still exist under Sony.

One reason for this rumor always being around is that the contract doesn't provide for the use of the MGM name is some promotional materials. People see stuff without the MGM and think its being phased out.

That's not to say its not really ending now, though.

I remember the last time the MGM rumor was going around, they actually started to replace the Disney/MGM merchandise with plain Disney Studios items. They also started to remove some of the signage around the park. Of course, that deal never materialized. We shall see......
