We were thinking of doing the early morning hour at MGM on a Sat., but I was reviewing the show times and attraction openings, along with the character meeting times, and it looks like most of them don't open til 9 or 10, some later. What would there be to do at 8 a.m.?

RnR, ToT, Muppets, Little Mermaid, Star Tours are open during the EMH. If you do these then it makes it easier to fit the other shows into your schedule.

I have two little boys. I'm wondering if I should bother with Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Are they more for girls?

Just an interesting note; when I saw Saturday this post I had to double-check my schedule. Saturday in May has morning EMH at MGM; it changes in June. In June (when we will be at WDW), Saturday morning EMH is at the AK. Morning EMH at MGM in June will be Mondays and Fridays. Walt Disney World EMH Calendar

My 5 yr old son liked both of those shows, not as much as star tours (4x) but he did like both of those shows.

Not unusual.
EMH schedule changes very frequently.
For instance, LAST year's EMH dates and parks are not necessarily THIS year's.

And remember, as the actual dates get closer, WDW can sometimes make additional changes in all aspects of the schedules.
So keep checking that Disney "official calendar".

Well, THAT's a simple one.

Do they like the MOVIES of Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast?

The shows are "on-stage" versions (much shorter, of course) of these films with many songs, familiar characters, and lots of action.

I don't think your boys have to like the Little Mermaid to enjoy the show at MGM. I took my son last year and at first he didn't want to go in because it was a "princess" show, but he loved it. He still talks about parts of that show and tries to convince his older brothers that the next time we go they should see it. We didn't see Beauty and the Beast, but I wouldn't hesitate to bring my boys in to see it. I sometimes think we (in general) don't give our boys enough credit to be able to see past the princess stuff and just enjoy!
