Has anybody else googled (using the satellite map) the shipyard where the new DCL ships will be built. The shipyard is in a city called Papenburg (about twenty miles from the ocean). It's hard to imagine the big ships sailing down the river from Papenburg to the ocean.

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

They built the QE2 in pieces (ok, big pieces) and then put them together closer to the water - I think that's what they said on the Travel Channel show last night. Maybe that's how they put all the big boats together?

Interesting too...we've followed that river via Google Earth (cool program, I highly recommend it...much better than google maps)...hard to believe they'll fit down that river. another interesting thing about that area...there's a river overpassing another...like, it's seriously going over the other one. strange.

Does anyone know how long these new ships will be? and how long they may take to build? It looks like they only have 2 covered drydocks, one uncovered, and one of them looks like it might not be long enough for the disney ships...we're just trying to figure out how this might work. they're taking a ship out this sunday I guess, and they have quite a few ships scheduled to be delivered in the next few years...6 of them in between 2008 and 2010 alone. 3 in 2007. So I wonder when they're going to start on the Disney ships...they must not take that long to build? :confused3

I have watch them build the last 3 NCL ships Pride of America, Pride of Hawaii and NCL Pearl on the Webcam. They seem to do very good work

They build a few ships for RCCL.It is a cool sight to see the ships move to the small river EMS to go to the North sea. They build some extra locks to get the tide higher, but still can do it at absolut high tide and no wind.It is such an amazing sight to see this huge ships to move trough green walls that channel the river.I will absolutly go there and see this when they move the first Disney ship.

Greetings from Germany

The Magic was built in two parts and taken down part of a river on it's way to meet up with the other section.

So why not do it again.

I was going to say that too! They showed it on the Travel Channel special that they build the Magic in two parts and then transferred them quite a distance to meet up with the other half and put them together!
