Mexico's River of Time

Why exactly did that movie need capturing? Especially since both represent Latin America as a whole, not mexico specifically.

It's sad how Disney is turning everything into a marketing opportunity. I'm surprised Test Track hasn't been converted into something about 'Cars'.

I'm more surprised that the MK Speedway hasn't

Kind of Off Topic:

I have not been on the Mexico's River of Time ride since I became disabled in 2003. The rides with "boats" are very hard for me to get in and out of.

Does anyone have a link where I can view a video of the new ride?

TIA
the Mexico ride (both the old River of Time and the new !Saludos, Amigos!) do have a wheelchair accessible boat with a ramp. Small scooters may also fit; if you don't have one or yours doesn't fit, there should be a wheelchair at the exit you can transfer to.

Or their contract hasn't expired yet. Walt's view of educating people is being lost to the almighty marketing dollar. I can't complain if they make a new ride and it's to the theme of an existing movie, but when they change an existing ride to reflect some random movie, that's lame.

I agree totally.

i didn't like the old version, doubt i'll like the new....

basically, it's just a ride to get us off our feet, out of the sun and to cool off in the darkened mexico building

I had to chuckle at this one. On our last trip too many times we got out of a ride/display especially in MGM and felt we had just gone a fancy advertising marketing campaign. hehe

This may just qualify as the worst ride in any of the parks.

lol since when has Disney resisted an attempt to turn an "adventure" into a marketing opportunity? Arguably, it's what it does best: create satisfying entertainments that sell lots of plush toys.

I feel you're mostly correct, but I still feel that the changing of old rides to sell newer movies is a relatively recent concept that hasn't always pervaded every inch of the parks. I just don't like the precedent being set here. The Pirates at MK is another good example. They're changing it from being about history or a way of life in another part or time of the world to being about Disney characters and Disney productions. There's less education and more selling. Of course this has been going on with the like of Peter Pan, Dumbo, 20,000 Leagues, etc., since the beginning, but it's a different animal these days. You didn't walk into a gift shop (is that even what they're called these days?) after getting off of 20,000 Leagues. The World Showcase should be about the countries and them alone. Please no tie-ins.

The old version was dated, hilarious camp. My parents are Cuban -- imagine visiting a Cuba pavillion in which we see clips of Ricky Ricardo singing "Babalu" while puppets laughingly bring mojitos whilst picking tourists' pockets for money to send to Fidel on the Sierra Maestra.

The old version epitomized what's so wonderful and awful about Disney.

I was there in sept 2007 and i was VERY disappointed with the new river of time. they could've done so much more with that ride with those characters. My boyfriend, the whole time, was saying "what is going on????". just sad

I loved the old version. I tell you what....Epcot has not been the same since they took out Horizons and World of Motion. These classic dark rides gave Epcot it's charm and imagination. What were they thinking?

They were thinking only about all those Donald plush figures and pins they could sell at the cart. It is firm policy that each and every new attraction must hock a Disney or Pixar character.

While I'd love to have Horizons back (it never should have been removed!), I'm just not sure I could sit through Horizons: High School Musical Edition.

I like both versions but I like the old version a little better.

Jeez, i really hope im not as dissapointed about the new ride as most of you are. I really loved the rio del tiempo. I guess ill have to express my opinion when i get back in november. Its a good thing i have the old ride in video.:)

I have a video of the new ride if you would like to see it.

I don't know how I will feel about the change...I always enjoyed the ride , especially the volcano.... But if the change is anything like the Journey to Imagination change..I am not hopeful......

Thanks Nascar for the video idea...I just searched and found a GREAt video of the original Journey ride....it was fantastic...
