not soccermom, but just an FYI...Disney World, in Orlando, Fl is nowhere close to Mexico (there's a very large Gulf out there) Disney World is actually more than 1000 miles away from the closest point of Mexico. NOT close by most people's standards.

Maybe you're thinking of Disneyland? That's just over 100 miles from Mexico.

But there is no San Angel Inn or La Hacienda there...these restaurants are only at Epcot in Florida.

Exactly. Since the restaurants in question are in Epcot, we're talking about Orlando. And since there are several states and the Gulf of Mexico between Florida and Mexico, I really don't consider it close.

We used to *love* San Angel, we still do for the ambiance and environment. It was "our" restaurant. We went there for our 1st anniversary and loved it. Fell in love with the tortilla soup. We have gone back yearly, but it seems to have gone downhill. We went this past April and were really disappointed. Everything we were served was so hot. Now, I like some spice, but it was so much that all the flavors just ran together in a sea of hot mouth and the soup wasn't so great. I wish it was like it was 12 years ago. Yummy! I think I might still go for the setting once in a while, but that's about it.

Thanks MMerryweather! [Merryweather is 1 of my fav. characters 2, she's so cute!] Anyway, I think I will def. try it for the ambiance. I want a table overlooking the ride for sure. I just hope the food is good.

I'm still not sure about any of this. I'm down to try new mex. But u'd think being so close to Mexico there would be some awesome choices! When I think of Mex I def don't think of a big chunk of beef. Not for me.

Firstly, as others have pointed out, Orlando is not near Mexico. Denver is closer to Mexico than Orlando is.

Secondly, and I'm really not trying to be harsh or condescending, being an authentic Mexican restaurant, they serve authentic Mexican-style dishes, albeit slightly dumbed down over the past few years. Nachos, while delicious, are not authentically Mexican; they were invented in a border town for a bunch of intoxicated & hungry Americans, and outside of touristy restaurants, are not served in Mexico. Chimichangas were, I believe, invented by Chi Chi's. A taco salad, i.e. ground beef in a fried tortilla bowl with lettuce, etc., would be a completely foreign concept to a Mexican. I understand what you want to find, and I'm also a fan of "Americanized" Mexican food at times, but you're not going to find it at a restaurant that strives to be upscale & authentic.

Those two things having been said, we've personally always enjoyed San Angel Inn, and are torn between returning or trying Le Hacienda de San Angel on our upcoming trip.

I personally am pleased to find the food spicey. Too many places make claims of spicey food only to find it is as bland as can be. Think Chilli's and the rest. For once you get whats advertised.

San Angel is the one restaurant that DH and I eat at on every trip! We love the atmosphere and the food. You won't find tacos, but if you are open to new dishes, they have great Mexican food. The Capirotada de Chocolate Blanco (bread pudding with caramel sauce) is heavenly!

This is so true. I love when a server warns you over how "spicy" something is... and then it's not.

Hi everyone!! My husband & I love Mexican & want to know which one to pick. I love the ambiance of the San Angel but have seen nothing but bad reviews on it. Does anyone like it? Well either way, what is the best place to get Mex?? I personally like a taco salads. My husband likes chimmy wha-cha-ma-call 'ems?? So what do u think? What should we try?



Oh & if there is a dish that stands out fill me in! Thanx!! =)

Sounds like you're looking for Tex-Mex...maybe? Perhaps something on I-drive will suit your tastes.

San Angel Inn is a great restaurant. We eat there every trip. We try something different on the menu every time and have yet to find something we did not like. I've said before, that people go to Disney with a high handed idea of what their meals will be like. If you set the bar crazy high you will have bad food, or bad service everywhere you eat. However if you go expecting a Better than average theme park meal, coupled with one of the best visual setups I think I've seen you'll like it. To be clear compared to a 4-star establishment, you will not be happy, but if you take it for what it is THEME PARK DINING then you should be happy. Don't listen to haters, they gripe about everything. Have fun
