We're having a Cinco de Mayo block party and I've been asked to provide a dessert. I have some great appetizer recipes, but I'm clueless about desserts.:confused3

Hm, we always get the fried ice cream when we eat at a Mexican Restaurant, but that would be too hard. Maybe you could find a recipe for Churros?

I think there is some sort of cinnamon/honey pastry thing that is from Mexico...but i am not sure.

I would take the lazy route, bring something you like...then make up a story about the origins. The more elaborate the story, the better. I mean, who is going to know better?

(ok peeps, don't get your panties in a wad, I am JOKING. Not seriously steering a poster towards lying....although, I wouldn't fault you if you made up your own 'authentic' mexican dessert-just sayin):lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Wait a minute. I not only have to bake, but provide a history lesson as well??:confused3 :rotfl:

Just do fruit salad.. Nobody can claim it's not authentic - unless Mexico suddenly has had a fruit famine :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I love flan!! I've never made it myself, but I'm sure there are recipes out there. Sopapillas are also good.

We had a Fiesta Birthday Party for my daughter and made these.

Churros from Allrecipes

1 cup water
2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup flour
2 quarts oil for frying
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon

Over medium heat, combine water, 2 1/2 T sugar, salt, and 2 T veg. oil. Bring to boil and remove from heat. Stir in flour until mixture forms a ball. Heat oil to 375 degrees. Pipe strips of dough into hot oil using pastry bag. Fry until golden and drain on paper towels. Roll in cinnamon and sugar mixture.

oooh Flan is yummy. and Goya has a decent instant version, much easier.
Tres Leches is nasty in my opinion. Much like eating a wet spoiled sponge.

They don't have chocolate cake in Mexico? :confused3 There are recipes for not-fried ice cream. They are probably a pain to make, but it would be impressive! :thumbsup2

Okay...

And, if you ask real nice I'll send you my family recipe...

Flan
Mexican Wedding Cakes (I don't know how to spell it in Spanish)
Biscochitos
Tres Leches
Empanadas (I would recommend this!!!)

And, SANGRIA!!!!!

I'd go with flan. Our grocery store sells big ones in the bakery section, probably enough to feed a dozen people.

Flan is delicious! We always serve this at parties and everyone always tells us how much they look forward to having it. I would give the recipe, but my aunt is the one who makes it. It's like a caramely custard, but a little more solid. The consistency might be more similar to a mousse. Tres Leches cake is really good also, but I would think it's harder to make. I've tried lots of different recipes of it, but really only like one. Have a good time!

Migas is also good...but an acquired taste...kind of a bread pudding...

I love Tres Leches cake. It can be nasty if you put in to much of the milk in it! In fact I just down a slice! Flan is also yummy. Down here my friends like to make a chocolate bunt cake with the Flan on top. Now that is good.
