Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

He got his info from Office of Emergency Preparedness, but I am waiting too for it to be announced. It made me nervous to let you know, but he is calling our family and friends to let them know.
I think he got it b/c he is in Gonzales area, where the contraflow would be effective 1st.

We are going east at this point.
Now I am sick AND frantic to get packed.

Just a heads up, but please wait till they announce it officially. If it is changed b/t now and then, I'll be embarrassed and VERY sorry I told anyone b/c we sure do not need any more fear raised than already is.

I trust his info though.

Any new news on direction?

Good morning, Now the computer models have it wither going west or right over Slidell, LOL! I am so confused!

Also hubby keeps walking around saying "we're gonna flood again". Um, STOP THAT!! I still havent gotten things back like I want them after K and now he's saying we're gonna flood again?? And the crazy part is that he doesn't see WHY that makes me so upset when he says that!:scared: MEN!!

Then I say that I'm not sure how much more of this I can take and maybe we should look at the possibility of moving and he says "well I'm not quitting my job!" Okay, he's a PE teacher and coach, its not like he's the President or something. Um, I think they have teachers everywhere the last time I checked..........I felt like telling him "FINE! Dont quit! Stay here and continue to put the house back together and replace all your belongings every few years and DD and I will be somewhere north of here. When you feel the need to evacuate, you can come stay with us but is gonna be hard to have joint custody of her when we are 400 miles away.":headache:

He gives me a headache. I think the storm or possibility of one has us all a little testy now.

Hoping everyone has a nice day and has a plan, just in case.......

Allyson

you sure we aren't married to the same guy? or maybe they are twins? :rolleyes1

Another crazy, frazzled, sleep-deprived woman here...I am very:confused:

I am dazed and confused too. I can't eat anything and we are required to stay at work even though I have an exception to the shelter thing...I am sick as a dog.... and tired but can't sleep of course.....I am anxious with chest pains...and I was sick last night so I didn't get anything done!

GRRR!

Lori- We are probably heading east too, of course depending where this thing goes. First to Tallahassee, and if it fizzles, we head home. If it doesn't fizzle and things are bad here, then we head to Orlando and begin the vacation early, maybe to US/IOA or Seaworld (very maybe...). And then on to our WDW trip after that (of course if we have another Katrina situation on our hands then this is subject to change).

We can also go to Baton Rouge where we could stay in the communal Whole Foods hotel room, but I really don't want to do that. Sleeping on the floor with lots of depressed people about doesn't sound like much fun to me. :scared: But at least it's an option if for some reason we just can't get east.

Keep praying everyone!

After a meeting with state police, the new news about contraflow is that the game will be for 10am and contraflow will start at 4pm for most roads. I am VERY sorry if I caused any panic. They WERE told by OEP that it would start tonight but was changed.

I think we are leaving in the morning.

No need to apologize Lori, you were just trying to help. I guess I need to do some research on contraflow to find out if we can head out on I-10 East Sunday.

Lorie I have no idea, I'm as confused as everyone else.:confused3
Looking at the Contraflow map, there is no way to go east. You have to go I 10 to I 59 North, get past the contraflow before you can go east.

Lori no need to apologize. But I'm confused. Are they going to only do certain roads at certain times.

No worries Lori. :goodvibes I am sure everyone appreciates the heads up! In light of this information, we are heading to BR in the morning around 7 or 8 to beat the traffic.

DH has stated he is not leaving...:headache: I am stressed enough and now I have to deal with his stubbornness. I asked him if he could please join us if the storm comes close to N.O. because I feel the WB will be flooded.

Stephanie I feel you girl! I am surprised DD has not started having her attacks yet.

I picked my mom up from St. James this morning and took her to the dr. to get her meds(lexapro). We then headed to Sears where I bought the last air mattress. :woohoo:

What else do you guys buy to calm your nerves during the storm besides chocolate and adult beverages? I will get the AB's when in the next hour.

I HAVE TO START PACKING. I have not done ANY!:rolleyes1 I am truly in denial.

Yeah Lori, we know you're trying to help! Any info is appreciated!

Kathy, if you find out any how to get east info, let me know!

All the gas around here is gone! Both of our cars are filled and we filled an emergency gas can.

I think we are truly officially guinea pigs-it changed THAT fast.

He is a very trustworthy juvenile detective and PERSON with a huge heart and was trying to help our family/friends out. And he is a man, he usually doesn't say anything unless it is true.

Lori

Thanks Kathy....:guilty:

My mom always told me if a hurricane approaches to throw some blessed St. Joseph bread (from the alters) out into the back yard to make the storm go away. So if any of you have some St. Joseph bread, you might want to do it!

I just googled it and found this from: http://www.southernfoodways.com/oral_history/neworleans_eats/brocato.shtml

"The blessed bread—the altar table is blessed by the priest and he prays over it, and the blessed Saint Joseph bread—you kept that and you didn’t throw that away. You could eat it stale if you wanted with coffee, but you didn’t throw it in the garbage can, all right. You kept it in your house as a protection and when—if there was a storm or heavy rain storm, you’d take a piece of that bread and you’d throw it out into the storm to say a prayer and ask Saint Joseph to kind of quiet the storm. You can believe it works or you don’t believe it works."

My mom has done that for years. We always had some in the freezer while I was growing up. Sadly I don't think she has any now but I do have some Holy Water. Maybe we'll try that now.

I would dress up like a fish and do the hula-hoop outside if it would keep this storm away. I'd be willing to try anything at this point! :rotfl:

I just realized that I have enough alcohol to last us a few months.:lmao: Every day I've been making a run to the store to pick up a few things and somehow a couple bottles of wine and vodka always find their way home...:rolleyes1
