Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 09/2009

Hey y'all,

Unfortunatly we don't visit anymore, too many funerals & time has passed. I do still have some cousins & two aunts in Thibodaux but that's it. :sad1: ...

It's funny but thinking about that nasty smell from the mill, brings back such good memories! As kids the drive from Westwego to Raceland or Thibodaux seemed like forever. But we knew we were close when we smelled that smell. Lots of cousins & fun outdoor play plus great food! I can smell it all now first the bad, then the good smells from my Aunt's kitchen! Mmmm gumbo & pap pies!:cloud9:

I live in Thibodaux!
When I was in grade school, we lived in Terrytown. When we'd go to Larose to visit family, we'd go past the Raceland mill and I'd get car sick every single time. When mom and dad would say we were going 'down the bayou', I'd get a headache thinking about the sugar smell.

Mary - How did y'all like CSR, that is where y'all stayed right?:upsidedow

Oooo Mary, I want to know too! We're going to be there in 50 days 5 hours and 33 minutes.

Kat, have you heard from Kyle? How did the tryouts go?

Just got the call from Kyle, he didn't make it. It came down to him and a left hander and they really needed another lefty on the squad. He sounded very disappointed but we both told him how proud we are of him and this now begins a new chapter in his life. Thanks to all for the good thoughts and prayers.:grouphug:

:grouphug:Kat, I'm sorry. Do you think that he'll go out again? God, it's hard when our kids want something so badly and don't get it. :grouphug:

I asked him if he would try again next year and choking back tears he said "Mom, I'm done". Baseball has been such a major part of his life but as I said, everything happens for a reason and now he can concentrate on school. It just hurts me so much right now knowing my boy is sad and I can't help him.:sad1:

:hug:Bless his heart and yours.

I've been sitting outside enjoying the nice weather this evening.

I have NO idea what all the gamey language is or what games are cool to go with it. I am getting 1 extra game and my mom will get them one. Any games any of you with a Wii really LOVE???
Lori

Aly has had a Wii for 2 years now. Her favorite games are: WiiFit, American Idol, Guitar Hero, Hannah Montana and Mario Kart. There is a new game Toy Story Mania which is just like the ride at Disney. She asked for this one for Christmas and GH5.

 Awe he has been such a good sport about all of this.

Sheryl how have you been? Have you started PT yet? ;)

so the refi is STILL Not funded - was supposed to be Sat but no money - somthing with the title. then that is just less money I have to find, but still going to be a struggle. sigh

then we had the parent meeting for the 4th grade Disney YES trip end of April...incredible - go behind scenes at Hall of Presidents and behind scenes at Haunted Mansion, get to ride Space Mountain with Lights ON and all as school - 3 hour lectures daily. oh - and HAVE to go to Disney Quest first day there...oh how terrible! but...$1000/person. includes airfare, special premium park hoppers, meal tickets and special buses (have to be there for school before parks open). G has to do a project on a president, on an animal at AK and interview a cast member from a country at Epcot...whether she goes or not. so, trying to do some fundraisers. so will be shamelessly offering things for people to participate if you feel so led. :D

we are having a craft fair and golf tournament and maybe a fishing rodeo. and selling tupperware. hope I can raise some of the money...not sure how I can afford it but we have waited for this since kindergarten. plus - it's DISNEY!!!

anyway - sorry about Kyle - but if something happens to the others he made a good impression I bet!

can't wait to meet you gals down in da bayou. I have learned so much about stuff on here

Welcome back Mary! can't wait to live vicariously through your food posts!

hoep everyone else is feeling well :) again, let me know if you want to lunch with me at 1pm at Ryans on Barataria and Lapalco this Friday in marrero (where my all day class is)

Kathy  So sorry he didn't make the cut. He sounded so close though. He should be proud of himself and so should you. :goodvibes

I hope the weather is nice on Saturday so I can see you at the Gretna Fest!

The weather was so nice today! Every time I went outside (which is often...I'm in and out all day) I was surprised that I wasn't getting blasted by hot steamy air and/or being sprayed by rain.

Kathy, I was so hoping the outcome would be different. You have a good boy with a good head on his shoulders though.

I liked Coronado Springs. It is very pretty with beautiful waterways and landscaping. The only thing is it is very big and spread out. I didn't mind that too much. Plus, where we were (Ranchos) was right by bus stop #3. Very convenient. I also liked that we didn't share a bus with other resorts, so it felt quicker to get someplace and back.

Hey all!

What a beautiful day! We have the doors and windows open and I'm loving it!
Glad you are here to catch the couple of days of fall!

Sheryl, I didn't know Bunratty Meade even existed. EPCOT can be very educational:)

Yes that's where we first tried it! Don't you love learning?!

ok, all you couples with older kids who go to WDW every F&W fest!!! I am looking forward to "those days" with my hubby!
It sounds fun!!

Paul wants to go back to DL just me and him again........but not any time soon.

Well, I got lots of Christmas shopping done this past weekend- got the kids a Wii-it was on sale for $199 at various places- it'll be a family gift from Santa, [QUOTE/]

Lori, I remember thinking the 1st trip without DD was going to be a sad one. It was just great!

Sheryl - Do you know if they show the LSU games at Gretna Fest? We may have a problem now.:sad2:

Yes they do show the game! They have it on a big screen at the end of the Huey P., they also have it on the screen the stage until the band comes on. Last year the game was on & the Beach Boys started up, they switched from the game to the stage & the crowd booed! Quite a few of the booths had little tvs on too, so you could keep up with the game while booth cruising too.

Tim and I stayed at the Bunratty Castle Hotel in Ireland! That was in 2000 on our second honeymoon. .

Oh wow! What a vacation! Sorry about your butter dish.

I asked him if he would try again next year and choking back tears he said "Mom, I'm done". Oh Kathy I'm so sad for Kyle! To be so close must be gut-wrenching. I'm hurting for. him, I can't imagine how sad you must feel for him. I'll pray for him to be strong.

Kristina, Miss G's trip sounds magical! Let me know about the fundraisers, I'd be happy to help!

I went to a jewerly making class with my cousin tonight. I spent way too much on the equipment to make jewelry! I hope I can do it. We made earrings & a bracelet. It was fun!

Ms Terry, No I've been a bad girl!:upsidedow Funny thing though, I used my bad hand to twist the bead wire & the teacher commented that I had a good grip! :confused3 I'll call tomorrow!

Thanks for the titles and info- Toy Story Mania on the Wii- COOL!! I'll be looking for it. Maybe my mom can get that one for them....

Me too Kathy, I was hoping and praying he'd get on- but everything DOES happen for a reason and hopefully he'll know just what that is one day. Even though the NOW is what hurts.........

Mary- That sounds so nice.......I visited there a couple times for the marathon I did in 2003 for Team in Training for the Leukemia and lymphoma society. All the check in, and booths were there. Also the party afterward was there, but we only stayed for an hour at most b/c we wanted to play!

Lori

:santa:Ugh, this is POST TRY #2

It is weird for me to see ppl all excited about F&W. Maybe it is because I wasn't old enough to partake in the "W" part, but I had always found F&W a huge pain in the rear when I was "unfortunate" (my thoughts at the time) to have to go to EPCOT during it. *Don't I sound like a spoiled brat! :snooty: What I would do NOW to "HAVE to go to EPCOT" * That said, I would love to try it, perhaps when I retire since it is too early in the year to take off:upsidedow

Mary: Welcome back, I am glad you had a good trip!:flower3:

Kat: I am so proud of Kyle, that is an excellent attitude to have despite the disappointment he is feeling. I am sure there are much better things ahead for him that will come to light soon.

No great stories around here...
Sunday my sister (I have two) called to say her bloodwork shows she is pregnant. My other sister (who is also pregnant) then calls to tell me my cousin also found out (Sunday) she is pregnant. I am guessing that the water is currently NOT safe to drink if you are not well protected...

Then tonight, my very pregnant sister (well, she is due in Nov and as opposed to just pregnant sister?:headache:) called to say that she is having the same complication as I had with my first two. So please send good thoughts her way as she is worried. We will know more on Thursday, but it appears she doesn't have high enough fluid levels and may need to go on bedrest and a possible induction. (Part of me want to :cheer2: since that would mean I would get to meet little Nate when we are in town, but the intelligent part hopes that all progresses naturally)

And lastly, last week we had to tell the older boys the truth behind :santa:. Broke my heart to do it, and I am sure this Christmas will be very different, but it was time. Since the two are so close in age we decided to tell them together. I couldn't figure out why they (at least the oldest one) hadn't caught on yet, especially since I was sloppy last year, but Fletcher told me with a very straight face... "because mom, you are a very convincing liar" :headache: They actually bought that I supplied Santa with the wrapping paper:confused3

Sheryl – I’m so glad they show the game. It would have been a no go for Johnny.:sad2:

Mary – Glad to hear you liked CSR, the next time we do a mod I’m pretty sure we’re going to try it!

Cara – Prayer said for your sister, keep us posted. It’s so sad to “break the news” to the kids, sometimes I think it’s harder on the adults.

Thanks to all for your good wishes for Kyle, Johnny & I really appreciate it.:grouphug:

Hi!

I know, I know, my location says Texas and I can feel the evil stares. But, I am from NOLA (when I was born we lived in Gentilly and then we moved to Kenner when I was about 4). I twice graduated from LSU (once wasn't enough) and moved to Texas (a second S was about to slip in there again) because after I graduated the second time that's where my job was. Hoping to come back home sometime in the not too distant future, but we'll see how that goes.

Lori - There's been a thread floating around regarding TSM - Wii. See if you can find it. It seems it's getting mediocre reviews (complaints about it being too simple). Now, this wouldn't be a problem for my kids because their mean momma restricts their Wii time.

Their current Wii fascinations are Mario Kart, Lego Batman, anything Guitar Hero, and the new Wii Sports Resort. They've played WSR at a friends' home and are asking for their own copy.

:santa:And lastly, last week we had to tell the older boys the truth behind :santa:. Broke my heart to do it, and I am sure this Christmas will be very different, but it was time.

Christmas will be very different in our house, too. Oldest DS walked in on the Easter Bunny (:rolleyes1 :headache:), and quickly put 2+2 together. I've had to stop him a couple of times from mentioning something to DS#2, but I know it'll only be a matter of time before he figures it out as well.

Kathy - Aw, man, he was sooooo close! If he can take a step back and look at what he just achieved (1 person away from walking on to a Nat'l Championship program!!!) he has absolutely no reason to hang his head. You & DH should be proud. Now - tell him to have fun on that journey to find that open window!

Happy Hump Day gang.

I think I will rent TSM from blockbusters before I buy it for Aly....I can't afford to buy another $50 game that will sit in the drawer. :rolleyes1

It really does take getting used to when the kids don't believe anymore....its fun seeing them open presents but it seems the magic is gone. :sad1:

I've heard good things about TSM as far as it being fairly faithful to the ride, but the game review sites haven't been too kind to it. It seems there might also be a few bugs in the game. I believe there's a thread in the Theme Parks section about it.

Mario Kart is an awesome game. I haven't played Wii Sports Resort yet, but might take a look at it in the near future.

Kathy - he really got so close, its understandable to be disappointed. But he should be proud of how close he got. Here’s to a new chapter, he’ll do great in whatever it is.

:rotfl2: I learn about a new alcoholic beverage every trip!

Sheryl, I didn't know Bunratty Meade even existed. EPCOT can be very educational:)

Yes these boards have definitely taught me a lot! Okay, so now to find this delicious sounding liquid!!
