Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Tricia - The UL campus is so nice, isn't it! The dorms are the downfall there.

I'll be staying in today, got a stomach bug, or maybe it's stress.

Mary - glad all went okay for you!

Kat - LSU is a big place, but I LOVED it! clubs and groups just make it smaller so encourage him to get involved! I had so much fun there - the classes were almost secondary...had a lot of rich experiences and met so many different people

Bethany - "hey mom - look at this!" "Hey Grayce, look at that!" :lmao:
thanks for putting up with us!

Jeff broke a tooth Sunday, then was still having pain. He is on antibiotics and has to have 2 wisdom teeth pulled next week... ugh

and we are on the way to a funeral for his cousin who died Wed. he has to work tonight in Slidell and at a wedding Sunday PM for church folks. I am singing at church on Saturday = unusual because I only usually sing on Sunday, but fun. but no real chance to do anything for the holiday weekend as a family.

hope to get to go to Uncle Sam Jam tonight at park across from my house....music and fireworks!

Hi everyone...i am enjoying a quiet day before the 4th at home. DD is out with her friend and mom is busy doing her house cleaning.

I will soon start on my American flag cake, jambalaya and pasta salad for tomorrow. :)

Kathy- me and you should share a bottle of that Sancerre- I still can't find it-looked at WF last week, looked at Rouses, I guess if I am desperate enough I will have to grag my butt to Martin wine cellar. I am also stressed- we got a storage unit yesterday and we brought about 6 bins there. I have family coming to visit Monday and my house is more messy from weeding through. A garage sale will definitely happen. I have had a bin for storage and a garage sale box for each room. It is amazing, even when I THINK I am not a pack rat, how much cr-- piles up in 10 years.
My kitchen is decluttered underneath(cabinets and all. Spot stained some places on molding around formica and cabinets(but all in really good condition really-hardly any staining needed). Now I need to break out those Mr Clean sponge thingys and get wiping tape marks off the door-yes, we hand artwork, etc up there!

Ugh- I think that last Abita purple haze is calling my name!

SO enjoying the xm station 1st wave-all old 80's british stuff- Duran Duran "Girls on Film" on now!!!:love:

Lori

Okay I'm going to try to catch up.....because I'm online now!

Sheryl...I wish you luck in your decisions about surgery.

Mary...I hope you're recovering nicely.

Kat...it will be okay. Kyle is only going to be about an hour away, and he already knows a few people there. Are you sure he's acting like it's no big deal or is he just so overwhelmed with everything to do that he doesn't know where to begin? And he will do what needs to be done when the time comes...

Lori...I wish you luck with the packing! Let me know if you want some boxes. I can bring them to the meet next week if you're going.

If I missed you, I'm sorry!

All is well over here! :thumbsup2

Kathy- me and you should share a bottle of that Sancerre

I'd love to!;)

Kat - LSU is a big place, but I LOVED it! clubs and groups just make it smaller so encourage him to get involved! I had so much fun there - the classes were almost secondary...had a lot of rich experiences and met so many different people

Thanks for the encouraging words my friend.

Thanks to you too!!!

He knows at least 20 friends there (8 in his apartment complex alone). Kyle is so different from me in that he worries about nothing. I anticipate what I worry about daily.....:sad2: I'm sure he'll be Ok, it's just me.

Have a safe and Happy 4th everyone!

Anytime on that Sancerre!

And, I thought worry came with the job status-"mom". Remember what it says in the bible, if I can be so bold, and it is MUCH easier said than done: worry adds not a minute to our lives, serves no purpose, and can be a time waster(my words, inspired). I try to concentrate on this at harder times when more worry is involved and it gives me peace. Of course, we are still human and God knows that. But isn't it true????

Lori

Bethany- thanks about the boxes, but i am still unsure about times for Ashton's play on Saturday

Hey Y'all,

Belated Happy 4th!

I was so busy shopping & getting everything ready on Friday, I didn't have time to check in. We had a crowd over for rib-eyes, chicken, redfish "on the half-shell", corn & veggies. MAN it was nice but wow it's hot!

After church today, it was only Bob, Angelina (SIL working) and myself, so we went somewhere nice. Flaming Torch on Magazine. Really wonderful! I had shrimp remoulade apptz. and a lump crabmeat version of eggs benedict! OMG it was soo good.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Mary, still praying for you my friend!

Bethany, I guess you've been christened in sweat by now! How are you handling the heat?

I guess you all heard about the monorail crash at 2am??? Driver,21, died!!

The monorails are closed down pending investigation. One ran into the back of another b/t EPCOT and TTC.

Thanks Lori, SO very true.

I'm still battling this stomach bug, 3rd full day, no end in sight.:guilty:

I was just reading about the accident! Oh my that is so sad. That poor boy's family!:sad1:

Kat, Sorry you're feeling so sick! Are your guys taking good care of you?

Bethany- thanks about the boxes, but i am still unsure about times for Ashton's play on Saturday

You're welcome...just let me know.

Hey Y'all,
Bethany, I guess you've been christened in sweat by now! How are you handling the heat?

No that christening shall come tomorrow when we unload the truck around noon/early afternoon. :scared: And 60% chance of rain/thunderstorms. They need to wait. And after we unload the truck, I need to drive to and from Baton Rouge to get my little dog. I think I will probably name her beignet. What do you all think? Cute or stupid?

The heat is fine....I went to the zoo for 2 hours today. The bonus to going in the afternoon in July is that it is really not crowded. :rotfl:

So one of the kooky things I was told before moving here was to "watch out for the heroin in New Orleans". Turns out there was a huge (33 pounds/$33million worth) heroin bust in the Bronx yesterday...the ring leader lives barely 3 blocks from my old apartment....and they sold at least 44 pounds of the stuff over the last few months. They used Build a Bear animals to hide the stuff. So charming.

Bethany, I LOVE that name!!!! My cousin has a dog with that name. She has Jazz and Beignet!

We have been packing fools- the house is coming along. I really want the house on the market by end of week. We are also putting it on Craig's list and gonna post it on FB every so often, plus putting an ad in the paper.

I am just trying to do too much all at once. I had previously commited to helping at drama camp, so this week is gonna be less house and more drama:goodvibes!

I have cousins visiting tomorrow and my house, although lighter, is a mess. I think it is ironic how cleaning out can make such a mess!

On a GREAT note- there are 68 days till we suprise out kids with Disney!

Need help-we added a day due tpo flights and so I have another day of free dining. I wanna go to the Boardwalk for dinner or DD-what restaurant do you all suggest? I read about Big River Grille, but there are just too many choices!

Lori

I worry like you. He will be okay. It is a normal stage in life. He MUST drive you crazy enough until you are able to let go. Then they come running back. I am dreading it myself.

Wow, that was quite the menu. I was busy with the 4th activities myself and hadn't had a chance to check-in. We had ribs, stuffed burgers, hot dogs, chicken wings, beans, macaroni, salad, corn and will be eating for days! It was very hot, but we had great friends over and a good time.

I guess you all heard about the monorail crash at 2am??? Driver,21, died!!

The monorails are closed down pending investigation. One ran into the back of another b/t EPCOT and TTC.

That is so sad:sad1: There was a bad accident at Universal Studios this week too.. (some ride inspector before park opening...not killed, but really badly hurt) I am afraid that in this bad economy... the job cuts are really starting to show in the park safety category. My prayers to the family.

Thanks Lori, SO very true.

I'm still battling this stomach bug, 3rd full day, no end in sight.:guilty:

Oh no Kat, I hope that you have seen a doctor.

Wow you are busy! Cleaning sure is messy.
I read a review of the Flying Fish at the Boardwalk that made my mouth water, and I don't like seafood.

You're welcome...just let me know.

Looks like you got out of the Bronx just in time!
Beignet is a fine name for a pooch

:snooty:My usually sweet DH had to mention the upcoming surgery, right as I was getting into bed tonight. So here I am now at 12+ still awake:rolleyes1. + having a major food frenzy!

Bethany, I don't think OUR heroin dealers would every be seen inside a Build a Bear!:snooty:
Yes it does sound like this week is going to be filled with rain. Unfortunately it's going to be a busy one here. too. I'm bummed, I have so much I want to do & then the things I need to get done. I'm hoping minimally to take A to the aquarium. I'd also like to have her little cousins over for swimming, who couldn't come yesterday. I have tues. eaten up on dr's & hospital pre-opp.. Plus regular errands & hopefully a nice meal with A, Mom & DD. I'd also like to get together with y'all my friends that can manage something during the week since I can't come next Saturday. Hopefully Kat will get well!

I do love the name Beignet!

Flying Fish is always good! ESPN club is always fun & has great burgers, wing & nachos! I don't know when Cat Cora will officically take over Spoodles, but that's would be somthing for us.. Also across the bay at YC/BC you have Yachtsman & Beaches & Cream.

Good morning!

:rotfl2: @ the heroin dealers. They probably paid some kids to get them the bears. I'm sure they weren't in there either! :rotfl

As for the rain, if I recall correctly, there were several requests I bring the rain with me...:rolleyes1

I do want to see you this week! I am busy up through Wednesday mid-day but after that my schedule frees up. Because of the holiday, the truck got stuck in Atlanta over the weekend. :sad1: The good thing about this is I get to drive to/from Baton Rouge in the daytime AND without being exhausted from unloading the truck in this heat. I was a little worried about that.

Have a great day everybody!

Good Morning NOLA back to work for me.

Kathy I hope you are feeling better today or at least start feeling better.

I really enjoyed my weekend....yesterday I slept pretty much all day. :woohoo:

Bethany good luck on the unpacking...remember less clothes is better. Drink water. Don't need you passing out.

I'm gettin excited about our meet this weekend! :yay:Can't wait to see you gals.
