Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Hey gals! Boy did I think of you all today.

Yesterday- dropped of DD11 at camp, went to the Gonzales outlets and ate at Cracker Barrell(crackerdilly!) for lunch. Was with a friend whose DD also went to camp and is one of Ash's good friends. Bought DD9 a couple cute outfits. After getting home and taking a nap, DH brought DD9 to my MIL's since I was working today. When he got back we went to eat at Copelands and had a glass of wine with dinner and white chocolate bread pudding that we brought home for dessert!

Today-went to work, unwillingly, and we weren't busy. DH called with an update from his 2nd interview:scared1: for a local job. I still cannot say anything b/c we do not know anything. Nor should I say anything at all-but i did tell you I'd let you know after June 9th! Anyway- since we were not busy at work, I got to leave early and went to get DD9 from MIL's and we went to NOLA! I just wanted a streetcar ride and the french market. I bought DD9 and I silver pendant chains with a fleur de lis and the water meter charm. I also bought 2 copies of a signed(???, really not sure if it is a real siggy of the author) of "Goodnight, NOLA!" for $15 each. I completely enjoyed negotiating prices with them today. I usually hate it. I just feel that the price should be fair and that should be it. I talked the 2 pendant chains down from $22 to $15 and the Goodnight NOLA books from $17 to $15. They are just over $13 on amazon and I'd have to pay S&H. I wanted a copy for my NOLA loving, born and raised friend, who just had a new baby ,and lives in Atlanta. I have no idea if I got a good deal on anything, but I had fun with my DD9-who asked me if I was "bargaining" with those people. We parked at the Hilton, rode the streetcar back and forth, then went to get DN7 for a few days. DD9 and I had a fun and memorable day.

So, I am over spending money for the next month!

Anyway, we took the long way to River Ridge to get DN7-River Road-went through my old stomping grounds in Harahan and River Ridge.

Then we came home and I had my first cake decorating class. It is going to be fun.

BTW- I am missing DD11 very much. How come I am not one of those moms who can be happy that her kids are out of her hair? My friend that I went to do the drop off with is completely stoked not to have to worry about her oldest. I just LOVE having mine around! I AM, however, very happy that she seems to be having a blast-according to pictures-b/c there is NO contact with her at all! I can send her notes and email, but she cannot reciprocate.

I will read up tomorrow. i have groceries to put away,b/c I did the stuffmart thing after cake class.

Lori

Sounds like you had a nice two days. I will pray for your DH and the job situation. I know you are 'willing' (I use the term loosely) to move to Houston, but would much rather stay in NOLA area.

Be glad you enjoy being around your kids. I deal with several that the parents don't want to be around and they are terrors. (not to imply your friend's dd is a terror...) I don't want to be around them either. :scared: I got blessed yesterday with only 9 students showing up to school :woohoo: and of those 9, I would have hand picked 7 of them to show up. The other two I would have switched out if I could. :lmao:

Have a great day everybody...I will certainly try to...

Did you all see this thread? Somebody over in the photo session took some photos in NOLA. There are some good shots. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2198289

Thanks for the link, those are some excellent photos!

Sounds like a great couple of days for you! I'm also praying that you'll be staying here.:goodvibes

Good Morning! I'm up super early because some little guy got me up at 5:00 am....;):coffee: He's doing really good though- he got up at midnight to eat, then again at 5:00, not bad at all! :)

Sheryl- Welcome back! So glad y'all had a great trip! Some of the better trips we've had have been the loosely planned ones. Can't wait to see some food porn!:woohoo:

Bethany- How many more days? You know that when the kids start staying home, the end is near! And thanks for that link- those photos are fantastic!

Lori- Sounds like y'all had a great day, very NOLA! I love playing tourist in my hometown too. I am hoping you can stay too! (I was hoping that was the announcement...)

I'm getting tired of being cooped up in this room (I'm not supposed to go down stairs much for the next week or so), but I ventured downstairs yesterday, and as I feared, Holy Moly!! It is a disaster down there! I think DH threw in the towel. I'm not saying anything though- he's in charge right now. When I'm back on my feet I can take the reins again. He ordered a new shed though and he has to tear down the old one and put this new one up. He definitely has his work cut out for him.

Good Morning NOLA.

Bethany the link to those photos are wonderful. I don't think I've ever ventured onto the photography board before.

Sherly I'm glad to hear you had a great trip. I totally agree that the rain really cool things off and sends some people out of the parks for a while. Us, we just put on a dollar tree poncho and keep going.

Lori I'm keeping my fingers crossed
1.gif
that everything will work out for you guys and will be sticking around a bit longer.

Bethany how's the packing going? I can't believe you only have three weeks left.

Yesterday we had dentist and ortho appointments for Kendall and Colin. Since we travel across the lake for that we hit up Lakeside Mall for lunch and a little shopping. I was so surprised that the place was basically empty yesterday. Not I'm not complaining because you could have your pick of tables at the food court. It's just been a while since I've seen it that empty.

ETA~Lorie I missed your post as I was typing at the same time. Only getting up twice a night is great! You've got yourself a little prince there.

Morning everyone!

Welcome back, shovan! Sounds like spontaneity was a good thing! No plans = no pressure, no expectations ruined. I'd love to see a mini-TR.
THREE WEEKS FROM TODAY....I shall make my escape!! :yay::dance3::woohoo:
Funny, I thought about you this morning! They were doing a bit on WWL radio about favorite snowball flavors, and I thought "I wonder if Piglet's had a real snowball yet?" Looks like you'll be finding out real soon!

Yesterday- dropped of DD11 at camp, went to the Gonzales outlets and ate at Cracker Barrell(crackerdilly!) for lunch.

Is DD at a sleepaway camp in BR? Sounds like you had a good couple of days playing tourist!
I'm getting jealous of my kids. They've made 4 trips to NOLA in the past two weeks with camp - the Zoo, Children's museum, and today they're headed to the Aquarium. I wanna go too!
I ventured downstairs yesterday, and as I feared, Holy Moly!! It is a disaster down there!
Yep, he's probably waiting for the magic fairy that shows up while he's at work who makes all housework disappear. Oh, wait, that fairy's on maternity leave!

It's OK - stay in your little upstairs haven & enjoy snuggling with Erik. A little disorder & dust won't hurt anyone!

Sheryl - welcome back and I'm glad you had a great time! Sounds like a fun trip.

Lori - glad you had fun here in NO! I hope everthing works out with that interview and you'll be able to stay.

No word on the apartment yet. I'll call on Friday or Monday if I don't hear from them. I suspect they are waiting for the paperwork from NOPD, so I'll give it a few days.

I was driving everybody nuts today at work. "Three weeks from today at this time I'll be on the way to the airport...three weeks from today at this time the plane will be 17,000th in line for takeoff at JFK...." :lmao: Payback for all their annoying comments...which, by the way, are still rolling in...

QUOTE]

The NOPD could be taking their sweet time, so be patient on that. I'm sure it will work out. And keep driving them nuts. Seems they deserve it :rotfl:

I'm glad you like those photos. I rarely venture over there either, but it happened to be the most recently updated thread in that section and it caught my eye. I don't recognize any of that stuff except for the "breakfast of champions". :lmao:

Lorie- After today, we have 12 days left. The last day is not until June 26!

Packing? UGH! I'm so over it! I just want it to be done and over with! Yesterday, somebody on another forum said that "yes, and in 4 weeks you'll be all settled in!" in response to the 3 week mark. Fat chance of that happening so fast! :lmao: I wish...

Tricia- I can't believe it either. It is not sinking in that I'm going down there and not coming back. I think that is part of why I'm having a hard time packing. It doesn't seem real. People will ask me where I'm moving to and I say "Louisiana" then my brain starts thinking "You're doing WHAT?!? WHEN?!?" :lmao:

And no I have not had a snowball yet. I have had a snowcone before, when I was younger but I don't know if it's the same or not.

I want to play tourist
here again on Saturday. They opened a new park on an old elevated train track in Manhattan. It looks really cool. I keep calling it the wrong name though. It's called the "Highline" and in Denver there was a Highline Canal. I keep calling this elevated park a canal. Duhhhhh :lmao:

Conversation on the phone this morning....

me-hello
them-Hi, is (moving girl) from the moving company. We need to evaluate what we will be moving on your relocation to Houston, are you home during the day? can we come Friday?
me- umm, no, gonna pick up DD11 from camp

(in my head , b/c of the small possibility to stay home,I am thinking about how to postpone these people, b/c if we stay, we pay it back)

moving girl-well, how about Monday morning?
me- umm, no, we start VBS and that will be all week(this IS true)
moving girl-well, maybe the following week....
me- well, I know I said I was at home during the day, but the next 4 weeks are crazy with camp, VBS, drama camps- can we do this mid July
moving girl-uhhh, we live in Mandeville, can we come this Saturday morning, about 10am?
me- well, let me look at my calendar-umm, sure I guess that is okay

(nothing was on my calendar other than an afternoon birthday party and I am not a good liar)

Moving girl- ok, Bruce will see you on Saturday, 10am
me- great see ya:sad2:

It is not looking good for my sister getting the house-they did get approved but since they don't have the perfect credit score, thier rate was on the higher side, which made the note over thier alotted max amount they figured they could afford. She said they will let me know by Friday-then we can get a real estate agent. I am still hoping for a miracle though. We may be putting it out on the homeschool chain first though-there are many newlywed kids and people looking for a place for their parents in a decent price range.

Sheryl- glad you had sucha great time and could add a day!!

Bethany- you're almost here!!!:yay:

Lori

yes, DD11 is at a camp in the BR area, but closer to Denham I think. I though of jenny as we drove through Denham!

Hey y'all,

Sorry no pics yet, my stomach has been a mess. I think it was too much junk food in the car.

Lorie, Stay upstairs, maybe your DH will get it all cleaned up before your next time down there! Or maybe that Magic Fairy will show up & it won't be you!;)

Lori, Sounds like a nice day! Prayers on the job. :flower3:

Bethany, I hope you survive the next few weeks!

He's doing really good though- he got up at midnight to eat, then again at 5:00, not bad at all! :)

Wow, that's very good. That's less than my cats wake me up.

I saw that thread, but I hate when all people want to show is the bizarre weridos and dirty, run-down streets. Did he even set foot uptown and see how BEAUTIFUL the city can be?

And no I have not had a snowball yet. I have had a snowcone before, when I was younger but I don't know if it's the same or not.
:scared1: This is an emergency. You can NOT survive summer without snowballs. :scared:

Y'all got to see this lolcat:

I literally LOLed.

I hear you on some of those pictures. I was thinking about the scenario that would arise to get the pictures of some of those people? What do you do just go up and be like CLICK! :confused3 Like Lilo taking photos of all the sunburned tourists. :lmao:

Okay okay I'll get me a snowball. I'm already on information overload. Tell me about them in July.

I think I am going to get a new phone. I'm going to get one that's *GASP* not a smart phone. I found one for $9.99 if I extend my contract for 2 years. What was my escape has become a trap and I get sucked into the forums like a vacuum and I am not getting anything done.

Sooo...I'm going to step away from all my forums for a month. I'll pop in here from time to time (research, you know...:rolleyes1) to check in and see what's going on, but I'm going to try my darndest to stay away from the forums on a daily basis. :sad1: I'm going to miss it so much but it's something I need to do.

Bethany - We'll miss you but girl, take care of business!!! Less than three weeks - :yay: Pop in when you can.

Hope everyone has a great day!

GM Ladies.

Well we moved my mom yesterday and boy am I pooped today. She is officially living with us for a while..... I will be incognito all day at work. ;)

Have a good day.

Terry- you are SO in my prayers. You seem to have a lot of stress in your life right now. Not that your mom is stress, but it can certainly add some to the mix. God bless you- I admire you for taking her in.

Bethany- I completely understand. I had to step back myself and when school starts, it'll be early morning or late nights. Since FB I have been sucked in. I need to balance a little better. Here sucked me in a few years back, but i have found balance on the Dis-this is the only regular thread I keep up with regularly. I like Jordanyosh's PTR's and TR's, but thankfully, those are not constant-although close.

So I check email, FB and Dis about 2-3 times a day for about half hour each, and at night sometimes it is extended. I DO enjoy chatting with Bethany and Kristina on FB though. And most of the time my laptop is on, and my pages are on minimize-I am loving emealz, so my laptop has found its way to the kitchen counter.

Going blueberry picking today, made smoothies for breakfast and looking very forward to getting DD11 tomorrow morning! Can't wait to give her a big ole embarrassing momma hug in front of all of her new friends;)!

YES.... I think that you just might be doing some snoball sampling soon. I am really gonna miss you around here... but you must get down to business, I understand.

I bet you are missing her. Hope you have enjoyed your youngest this week. How did the Blueberry picking go?

Hey y'all!

DD has abandoned downstairs as well- she eats her meals there, and then heads up here to hang out with me and baby. She must be afraid of the mess too. :rotfl: I'm not stressing out about the mess though- I was joking with DH and told him "you're fired!" He just laughed.

So the Disney online store is having a sale, and they have the cutest little girls' sundresses at good prices. I'm SO tempted to buy some for DD for our next trip, but I'm afraid I would jinx myself doing that. DH and I both want to go really badly and are still planning to go next May, although we discussed waiting until fall 2010 when DS would be just a little older (remembering that DD had a rough time when she went at 13 months old...). But he is a different baby and he already seems way more laid back than she was, so we'll see. DH says that he wants to go next May because he doesn't think we could wait much longer than that!

Aww, Bethany, we will miss you, but I understand you gotta do what you gotta do. You'll have plenty to chat about once you get here! And yes, you must get a snoball!

I bet you are missing her. Hope you have enjoyed your youngest this week. How did the Blueberry picking go?

I do miss her. Haley admitted to kinda sorta missing her sister. And I didn't even ask.:cutie:

aaah! The roach part of Enchanted is on right now!

Blueberry picking was eventful. We got up early, made the girls smoothies(have DN7 again), gave her her allegra. Went about 10:15 ish-it was HOT. DN7 was enjoying picking blueberries for the 1st time and then she stopped, told me tummy hurt, and sat in the dirt. They we delivering free water in golf carts, so we got her some. She didn't look so good. I brought her back to the covered area where there were swings and chairs to sit a bit. About 10 minutes later she felt a bit better and we went to pick more.

After about another 15 minutes we had a gallon(I wanted 2 but after this I decided that 1 was enough this time!) and got a gatorade and left for cooler air.

She is okay though. Back to normal. I think meds+smoothie(too acidic?)+sun= trouble for her!

Anyway- 1 gallon of blueberries = about 18 and 1/2 cups of blueberries-all nice and getting frozen right now! I am sending a bunch home with DN7.

When Ash is home we will go again. I'd like enough for a year and we can make lots of muffins and pancakes and cobbler and use them for smoothies and just snackin'!

Too funny.....:lmao:

Can someone tell me the correct way to pronounce Degas, as in Cafe Degas??? We're going there tomorrow night for Johnny's birthday dinner and my co-worker said the proper pronunciation was quite weird...just curious if anyone knows.:upsidedow
