I just took my second weekly dose for Psoriatic Arthritis. While I don't feel any better, I don't feel any worse.

I keep reading about people ( on PS support forums) who have horrible side effects from taking MTX. Does it take a while for side effects to kick in or am I just fortunate to not have any? I take 10mg/ week. Maybe it's a low dosage?

How long did it take for MTX to kick in and help you ( if it did help you)?

Thought....try giving up flour, gluten and sugar for thirty days. I wonder if your symptoms will improve? It worked for my mother!

I take MTX 18 mg a week and the only side effect I have is some tiredness the next day. I've been on it for years. It took at least 8 weeks to feel the full effects for me.

I am also gluten free as I have Celiac but I have heard people feel better giving up gluten.

My DH was on it for a few years for Psoriatic Arthritis. He never had any side effects but it wasn't all that helpful to him either. I don't recall what dosage he took.

Methotrexate weekly here. No side effects other than needing a nap the next day. I've been taking it a couple of years.

Best of luck to you. Arthritis sucks.

I have RA and was on methotrexate for 5 years it started to work within in a month for me and I was extremely nauseous the next day.

I am trying to greatly lessen the gluten that enters my body and also am reducing sugar. Hopefully it will help and maybe I'll lose a few pounds too!

I was on 20mg MTX for 5 years for my eczema. I got lucky and had no side effects from it. For me, the worst part about being on it for so long was having to get a liver biopsy done. Otherwise, it was an amazing medication for me.

DH has taken high doses of methotrexate weekly for the last 5 years and he has not had any side effects. Sure, he gets fatigued and needs a lot of naps, but he has stage 4 lung disease and heart failure. I think those illnesses are causing most of his symptoms. One thing about it--methotrexate has enabled him to drop some of the prednisone that he required, which HAS caused side effects.

I've been on so lo long can't remember how long it took to work...but I'm on Embrel with it. Good luck! Be sure to keep,up with your blood work.

I noticed one person who was on it long term had to do a liver biopsy. Has anyone else had to do that who has been on it for a while?
