That is why my wonderful Sudafed is disappearing. Gee. I don't like the new stuff because it doesn't work near as well for me.

How common is this stuff? I don't get out much so I don't really know. It is so sad though.

5 percent of all high schoolers have tried it, according to the department of justice. 3 percent of them are "habitual" users. Really sad...

I don't remember seeing this at all when I was in high school. The worst thing you did see was marajuana.

I was behind an elderly man at Wal-Mart recently that was trying to buy some sudafed in the pharmacy dept. They asked him for an ID, and he was so confused. When the clerk told him that kids buy the stuff to make illegal drugs, he said something like, "my stars what is this world coming to." I have to agree. The clerk keyed his DL# into the computer before selling it to him. Apparently they're trying to keep track now. But small pharmacies, I doubt they have the system in place to do that.

Thanks. This morning on the news they were showing a high school just for recovering addicts. That is sad that they have to have such a thing.

Every store around here, large or small, that sells cold/allergy products is now required by law to keep track of these sales. I'm sure it's difficult for smaller places to do this since they may have to pay out of pocket for a system and their system probably isn't as sophicated as the larger chain stores. It's not an option though, they have to comply.

There is a limit as to how much you can buy too. I believe it's 3 packets now...

Oh yes, there is definitely a limit. I'm not positive but I think it can vary store to store. Some will allow only one purchase at a time, others will allow more...but 3 may be the most. It may be different for each state.

We have even cut down on our camping because we use the Coleman fuel and this is one of the ingredients also. We are so afraid that the clerks will think we are buying it to make meth we have just about stopped using the fuel.

The reason why it is so hard to stop is that it is so easy to make. Any person with half a brain out there can even learn how... It seems that the only thing the police can do is shut down the labs and limit the sales of sudafed. It really is a shame, because sudafed actually works for many people.

I didn't know any of this stuff until today. At least one of the parents of my clients aat that house was using meth. He is in jail. Another resident was also using but supposedly has been rehabbed. I wish I had looked it up earlier. I didn't notice any of the other stuff the article mentioned but I wasn't looking for it either. Brings head up out of the sand. The first time I noticed the odor I thought it was from the overflowing cat litter box and I told them to clean it up. The second time the odor wasn't as bad and the litter box was not as bad either. They have 4 very small children in that house. I just e-mailed my case coordinator and asked him about the smell. He said he didn't notice it when he was in the house but it really knocked me out.

Do you think I should ask the police to check out the smell? Thanks to all of you for your help.

Meth Is a highly dangerous drug that burns holes in your brain, you can truly tell who does it. Here they are called. "Tweekers" as they figet and start tweeking out.

Everytime I get to go off to a conference on domestic violence, there is usually a couple of classes on Meth. I try to hit at least one of the each time, there is always so much new information about this drug out there!!

Something that stood out to me at the last one was that it was put on through a partnership with the military. The military always brings the most graphic pictures!! UGH!!

Anyway, some of the stuff that they went over was the gas that is put off when cooking meth is highly dangerous as we all know. But, in some cases, it is can be instantly lethal if mixed a certain way. They showed pictures of this guy, dead of course, who had inhaled ONE breath of the gas and it began to liquify his lungs. He basically drowned in his own fluids. It was horrible to see.

Second was talking about how it makes holes in your brain. Part of the brain that it destroys is memory. They are estimating that in 10 years, we will have a society of young adults, (twenty somethings) that will have to be cared for like we are caring for elderly in nursing homes because these kids will not be able to remember from day to day how to care for themselves.

Have your kids stay away from it, at all costs. This is not a drug to be toyed with, and is arguably even more addictive than cocaine because of it's long-lasting effects.

This drug has taken its toll where I live, and there is a lot of publicity about it here. The majority of crime here - especially the theft is tied with meth users. I agree with dmslush. The showed pictures on an Oprah show of MRIs of meth users holes in their brain. The damage is irreversible. I've seen the users - thin as holocaust victims with sunken face, and the drug ages them years beyond their normal age. They usually have terrible skin lessions and acne. I've heard that urine is used in the manufacturing of meth, amoung other things.

if you suspect drug abuse going on, you need ot report it. and if it's meth, you need to get the kids out of there.

Lessa - is the smell enough grounds for a report to the police? They do have cats. I did not see anything else like Coleman fuel or sudafed. I didn't feel like prying too much and I really didn't see the kitchen or bathroom. I'm going back and I'll try to look for that stuff and hope I don't find it.

There are a ton of meth labs in Central FL, it has actually been around quite awhile. I know of people (my ex-husband being one of them ) that have used it since the early 90's. It is BAD news. It is extremely addicting, and very easy to produce.

If I suspected the production of it based on the cat urine odor, I would make an anonymous report.

I grew up in a small town. To some, the opportunity to cook meth and make $30,000 dollars tax free in a few weeks is irresistable. You can tell who's making the money. There are no visible means of support, but they tool around in new SUVs and pay cash for everything.

One ingredient is anhydrous ammonia. It's a liquid fertilizer. Farmers used to keep large tanks of it. Now they don't dare. People used to take long drives in the country. Now they are afraid to ply the backroads. The violence that surrounds the drug trade has come to small places quickly. The authorities and townsfolk are completely unprepared for this brand of revenge.

Sadly, it will probably play out like the "crack epidemic" which didn't recede until it was out of victims.
