Question about the beefed up security at airports -- especially after reading the thread about underwire bras.

I have an 11" stainless steel rod attached to my spine (due to scoliosis). Have had it 25 yrs. Never had it set off an airport detector yet.

Haven't flown since 9/11. Will the new sensors go off due to the metal? I've got one hell of a scar I can show them. :)

I have only had one airport (Tucson airport) detect my plate and 7 screws and my underwire bra due to they really put the sensors really touchy. Other then that I have had no problems.

I have a titanium rod in my knee. It did set off the sensors.
The agent told me that the sensors are quite senstive now.
He advised me to let them know before entering the sensors the next time and I did and they hand wanded me anyway.

They will still want to wand you to make sure there is no other metal besides the rod you told them about.

I once saw (in a courthouse) a security checkpoint where lights along the sides of the arch glow to indicate the approximate height of the metal object(s).

Disney hints:

Some day they will invent remote sensors (can't put an archway there) to sense balls and strikes at a baseball game.
