Metal detectors?

Hi all
I hear they have added metal detectors to the security. Can anyone give the run down on how they are used for EMH and other park entry? Are they after bag check? Thanks!

Here now. Immediately after bag check, you have to go through metal detectors. It seems to take 2-5 more min. usually.

They are immediately after bag check. With the holiday weekend and such there have been some reports everyone is going through them , however in our recent experiences people are randomly selected.
They are very nice and respectful just be prepared for extra time.

Yes, there have been reports that everyone has had to go through the detectors recently, but there have also been reports that it is the usual random selection. This may depend on what time of day you go through bag check. Also, for the GCH entrance to DCA, everyone must go through the detector.

Just curious.... Why does it matter?
Please, im not implying anything... I'm certain you are on the up and up, but that is a classic question the bad guys would ask.

When the line is out to Harbor or WOD, people want to know how much time to allow to get to the gates. If selection is random, the lines might move more quickly. If everyone has to go through the detectors, the lines might move more slowly. People want to plan ahead for how long they may be in line.

Lol!!! Really??
Why would it matter? Wouldn't it be the same for everyone?

For example,if you read the threads above, all people entering through the DCA GCH entrance use it, but it seems to be only selected people elsewhere. which means that the already slow GCH queue is likely to be slower now. So not the same for everyone. Thanks OPs for your helpful info.

No one is trying to scare anyone or be a conspiracy theorist , just trying to plan their day. It's a completely legit question

Went yesterday afternoon and everyone went through the metal detector. Didn't take much longer but the line was short already.

Also, FYI, some of us have medical devices which are not supposed to go through metal detectors, so knowing this means we can call Disneyland n advance & check about our rights to alternate security screening options (pat downs, etc.). Thanks for in the info!

When I was there last week, they were sending everyone through about 50% of the times we went through security. It was random the other 50% of the time.

They're not going to have their private security do a pat down. They have handheld metal detectors, you can ask them not to scan the device.

I'm here now. Everyone has had to go thru the detectors the last three days. However I taked to the CM at bag check and she said they still do selective, it all depends on when they get the call. She said the long term plan is to remove the busses and tram to across the street (she said Disney bought property across the street) and tear up the whole bag search area and make a real security gate check. That's the long term plan.

Maistre ..... I get a little spooked (and think the same thing) sometimes when people ask a question like this even though I know the op was just thinking about timing.....it's just the world we live in.

I have a plate in my neck from a fusion. The doctor gave me a card to carry in case I had to go through the metal dectors but the newer ones don't seem to be triggered by it but thanks for the reminder as I will make sure I have it with me.

I am glad however this question came up because I never thought about how much time it would take to get through the extra security and oh my, with as slow as my Father is we will have to leave a hour ahead of everyone just to get him through security :).

In all seriousness, I am so glad they have the extra security. Let them take as much time as they need to check all of us - the more security the safer we are. They installed these the day after we left on our last trip and I was really glad to hear they had.

Their checks don't stop anything. It's for show to say they tried.
