Metal detectors and mesh?

My husband had hernia surgery and had mesh put in. Does anyone else have this? I was wondering if it will set off the metal detectors at the parks.

My husband had it done over 20 years ago. We’ve never even thought about it with metal detectors. He has never set one off. At Disney or airports, etc.

Yes, he was given a document to show when he goes through a metal detector.

Then bring the document in case it's needed. Most hernia mesh is not metal.

DH also had it, but it has never set off metal detectors. And our airport's metal detector is very sensitive.

Not that surgery, obviously, but I have titanium surgical clips. I set off TSA, but not Disney. I just let TSA know I have 9 surgical clips.

Just a note that WDW uses these newer style metal detectors that can distintuish metallic objects and flag things that are potentially dangerous or otherwise disallowed. I can't say for sure that it wouldn't flag the mesh, though I doubt it. If it does, security will pull you aside for additional inspection. I am sure the document will suffice, if it's even needed at all.

I have screws in my chin, and it has never set anything off. However, the foil on a blister pack of lactase pills set it off.

Very strange, IMHO, but I'm not a doctor. A few years ago, I had bilateral inguinal hernia repair surgery and they installed mesh on both sides. I have no problem going through security at WDW, DLR, or airports.

I think Disney's metal detectors are set to "see" objects that are of a shape/size/location to possibly be weapons. I have a metal shoulder and have never been stopped at WDW, and I believe others who have metal hips and other body parts report the same. I don't think the mesh will be an issue at all. So have fun!

That's true for my husband. He has a metal hip and has never set off the metal detectors at Disney since they switched to the new style detectors several years ago. He does set them off at other venues and airports sometimes and occasionally sets them off at stores.

DH had inguinal hernia repair back in 2012 and his surgeon used mesh--no issues going through body scanners at the airport, metal detectors, or the body scanners at WDW.
