Certainly not a scientific poll or data to back it up, however, in speaking to co-workers both myself and DH, as well as a Christmas party this was widely talked about. It included people that have been to WDW within the last 5 years with their own young children or grandchildren. Also, adults who have dressed up for the parties as well as people going to WDW within the next year. The overwhelming consensus was bring it on, no problem. So, we don't dress up? Fine.

My point is not to say people here are wrong, we all have our opinions. However, the DIS represents a fraction of the people going to WDW and just wondering what the general public really feels and will it truly affect MNSSHP? Will this all just be accepted as a way of life and how it is?

And you're asking this on a board that you just said only represents a fraction of the people going to WDW. So, who do you think will answer this question?

Anyone on the DIS who chooses. As it has been said, many times on various threads, the DIS is a fraction of the millions who go to wdw. Just a different (perhaps) perspective. Don't like the question you can view and move on.

Meant to add quote

That wasn't my point. My point was you won't get "John Q Public's" opinion who isn't already on the DIS. I'm trying to figure out how you expect to get an answer from those who aren't on the DIS, on the DIS?

I'm sorry. My question is directed to the DIS as to if they have any thoughts as to how the general public May perceive these changes. I am remembering back to the changes with FP+ and people were expressing that they didn't like it, etc. people (dis members) were stating that the didn't feel the general public *may not* have a problem as they were not as in the know, didn't go as often or whatever. So, the average DISer has many more trips invested than perhaps the average. So, do you think the average folk will really be that upset about not dressing up, or a few more minutes going through a metal detector.

I just returned from a week at WDW yesterday and only saw one metal detector (at Epcot on Friday) but never saw any others or was told to use the one at Epcot. I also saw lots of adults and teens over 14 in costumes at all parks, so I am not sure how much they enforced it. Maybe it was just for people not staying on property. I never understood adults wearing costumes anyway, but that is just me. I did hear that someone tried to bring a gun into the Magic Kingdom one day this past week, to maybe that led to new rules.

I will speak for those who are not on the DIS.

"Whuh?"

I belong to a Disney facebook group and they think the costume ban on the parties is silly.

It all depends on your definition of "costume".

What exactly did you see these adults and teens wearing? Because when we were there a few weeks ago, I only saw one teenager the entire ten days we were there that I'd say was in an actual "costume". He was wearing full Harry Potter robes and a pointy wizard hat.

I don't consider a Buzz Lightyear hoodie, or a Minnie Mouse dress, bow, and matching black shoes to be a costume. Nor do I consider the Asian girls in Lolita wear to be in costume! Full Star Wars Stormtrooper gear, though, that'd definitely be a costume.

^ Just a style choice, not a costume. ^

I dunno...I went to the DL Halloween party and I was under the impression that Adults couldn't wear costumes per standard park policies. I still went, though I'll admit that once I found out adults could wear costumes, it made it that much cooler to me and I have been to MNSSHP every year since and enjoyed it quite a bit more.

Until recently the rule was always no costumes for adults outside the Halloween parties. In the past year or two, they seem to have loosened up on that rule significantly, and the language was even dropped from their website. I don't think it is that big a deal for the regular day.

As far as MNSSHP, I know there have been a couple of CM statements floating around that claim the rule is going to apply to MNSSHP. Even if there was any official statement on that now, I think it will change by party time. I do not believe they will apply the costume ban to MNSSHP. One of the things that makes that party special is all of the adults in costume just like the kids. One of the best parts of that party is seeing all of the costumes that the guests come up with. I think Disney knows that is a big draw, and I don't think ultimately that the rule will apply to the party.

We have gone every year for the last few years, and that party is so much fun that we typically go 2 or 3 times during our WDW week. If that rule is applied to MNSSP we will not make our October trip to WDW. We will spend fall break at a different vacation spot. The party is the main reason we go to WDW that time of year. It is not the fact of whether DH and I can dress up- it is the fact is that the entire atmosphere of the party is that there are adults and whole families everywhere dressed up that we see at the party. You really feel like a kid at Halloween again. It is special. One year we saw a 6 foot tall big guy dressed as Tinkerbell to his little kid's Peter and Wendy- it was one of the most adorable and funniest things I have seen at Disney. What a great Dad he must be to do that for his kids. It is what makes the party 100% better than MVMCP (and in general I love Christmas and don't particularly care for Halloween).

I know several people who are not on the DIS who have gone in October and the party was the highlight of their trip. I know people who did not realize that a lot of people dressed up, who still loved it even though they were not dressed up AND who specifically booked another October trip the next year just so they could go to the party dressed up themselves. I will say that the average never been that time of year before guest will have no clue what they are missing. To them, if the rule is applied to parties, they will not know that they have lost the atmosphere that makes those party nights special. They will just be left pondering whether the price of the party ticket was worth it.

Just like the disboarders....some will think it's a good idea in the spirit of safety, others will think it's paranoid overkill, and yet a third group won't even know what you're talking about ... or they won't care either way :bored:

Honestly the lack of being able to wear a costume would not stop me from attending the MNSSHP. And I'm all for the metal detectors - we go thru them at our local theme park and sporting events and it doesn't stop us; so no biggie.
