Pins of course!!!!!!
We had a "visit" from Peter Whiterford, president of the Disney Stores today. The first thing he wanted to see was the pin display, or in our case the lack thereof. We are almost completely sold out of our entire stock and only have one box of each for next week. ( FYI--I am now at the much smaller DS on 66th St here in NYC and not at 5th Ave. )
Both the SM and I told him how frustrated our guests were at finding the pins they wanted gone in minutes. We mentioned that they were frustrated that a few people got to purchase unlimited quantities and others got none. Surprisingly.....HE LISTENED!!!!
Before the visit there was an e-mail from Home Base stating that first day purchases would be limited to 5 of each style per guest. He also said that in future weeks stores would be getting more of each style.
He asked me why I thought there was more of a problem with these pins and I proudly explained as a pin collector that there simply were more of us interested in collecting them now. The last series of pins that the DS produced were what got a lot of us involved in pin collecting and trading. There are twice as many collectors going after half as many pins. He said to another member of the entourage that the last series was based on 15,000 units. This series is based on 8,800. This is approximately how many were actually sold of the last series. He did allude to the fact that these pins are NOT collectible and therefore can be reproduced. He also stated emphatically that IF they did produce more of the first ones that they would do so carefully so as not to have too many left over. He also menitoned some cool promotions that may or may not happen involving pins that are left over. There was much discussion as to how to handle the extras of each style that are always left over. People buy sets and usually a few extras of some styles to trade. This always leaves leftovers. Keep your eyes on the Disney Stores to see how they handle this issue.........
So, bottom line........they ARE listening and trying to do their best to make a profit for themselves and keep the guest satisfied. Let's see how things progress over the course of the next few weeks. I'll do my best to keep you all informed.
