I know the red carpet at the Met Gala is a showcase of shock and awe, but really? What do the celebs do with the big hats and the long dress trains (and that piano costume) when they need to sit down? Do they have a hat-check or coat-check system so the celebs don't have to deal with the nonsense? If/when they remove the hats so the people around them can see, what do the celebs do about their hat hair?

Well, for one thing, there are no cell phones allowed inside - and I've never seen coverage of inside. So probably not as big of a deal hat-wise since they'd likely be putting them on before exiting.

It's a great question, I suppose they have help removing and storing the hats and props. I'll bet there's not a soul in there who doesn't run home and switch into PJs ASAP. And for the guys, pajamas = an old t-shirt that's ripped under the arms. Don't let 'em fool ya;)

Twenty plus years ago I went to the Met Gala. I had a friend who worked there. We entered from a different entrance and later than the celebrities. It was definitly not as big a deal then. I do remember changes of outfits from some.

I have so many questions.... Why did so many women forget the bottom half of their outfits? Why is Whoopi throwing gang signs? (Ok, it's prob not, but could easily be mistaken for one) How did some of them even arrive in a car in those outfits? Did they park in a parking garage and get out and finish getting dressed? No way Andre3000 was wearing the piano in a limo. How do some of these outfits stay on? How much double sided sticky tape and b00b tape was used last night to keep things in place? How many millions of dollars was spent for last night between the event itself (decor, food, security etc) and the outfits and jewelry?

I am officially old I guess lol. At the ripe old age of 46.

It's a publicity stunt.

I had many of these fun dresses in my youth. If the dress is cut specifically for you, then you will not need tape of any kind to keep things in place. Some dresses have a built-in bodice with demi-cups. The bodice can be made with translucent materials if necessary.

How many millions of dollars was spent for last night between the event itself (decor, food, security etc) and the outfits and jewelry?
Think of the number of people who got paid from these events.

You're still very young. When I was your age, I was still wearing tube tops and dresses with spaghetti straps.

Met Gala is a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. They raised over $31 million dollars. It's also a showcase for designers, and the outfits are supposed to be over the top, wearable art.

I know what it is lol.

Yes, there were certainly some working the event who were paid. And some relatively unknown designers probably made some money and got some publicity. But I was more talking about the exorbitant amount that was spent on designers and jewelers. But my thought was just that all that money could have been spent on something so much more useful to society. It's not like any of it went to any charities that are actually helpful. I'm just saying in the current climate where everyone is hating on the rich and whatnot, why is no one talking about this? Does the Costume Institute really need 31 million dollars? Idk...
