So I had breakfast reservations at Crystal Palace for 12/2 for 8 people. 4 of those people are not going with us anymore so I figured I would modify my reservation to free up those 4 seats. Well, you can't modify online but I knew that the reservation shows up as soon as you cancel so, I figured I'd just snatch it right back up for 4. This has worked when someone else has cancelled and I needed to pick up the reservation. Well...no; apparently it doesn't work that way with your own reservation.

I cancelled and then it showed up to reserve but would not let me reserve it because it said I already had reservation. Well, by the time my cancellation went through- all 8 seats were gone.

So a warning to all who want to modify. I have several more reservations with 8 people when I only need 4 and I don't know what to do. I don't want to loose everything. Please send pixie dust; I'm going to keep hoping for another cancellation before I tell the kids.

Call Disney Dining and they will change the number of people from 4 to 8 for you. You do not need to cancel and rebook to do this.

Just wanted to say sorry and I hope you end up getting it back...or doing something even more fun!

I'm really sorry that happened. I am constantly (well almost) hawking ressies for my upcoming trip. I just put a sticky on my desk for your date and will check for you as well.

I've had good luck so far so lets keep our fingers crossed.

I'm so sorry your lost your ressie, but keep checking back because something is *bound* to open up in the days before. That happened to me both days I had breakfast at CP back in Feb.

Just keep in mind, the Disney dining reservations system keeps separate pools of 4 versus 5/6 versus 7/8 group reservations, so if you released your table of 8, it doesn't mean that you can turn right around and book a table for 4. Someone looking for either 7 or 8 would be able to snatch up your cancelled reservation, but not someone looking for any other party size.

It used to be that if I wanted to reduce my group, Disney would have to look for a replacement reservation and then cancel my old one -- but if nothing could be found, I was told to just keep my old reservation. Then a few weeks ago, a CM I was on the phone with was easily able to adjust my reservation from a party of 6 down to a party of 4. I'd never experienced that before, so perhaps their reservation system has been upgrade.

So for anyone else looking to reduce your party size, CALL!! Don't rely on MDE. It has too many glitches and one might, sadly, lose your reservation altogether like OP did. I am so sorry that it happened. Did you have a chance to call Disney right away to see if a CM could grab the reservation back for you?

Thanks guys, I was able to get a reservation for 12/1 thanks to this site. I'm so relieved.
