Message from Webmaster - Board Announcement

This may not really impact the VMK boards but wanted to let you know since this message is shared throughout the boards.


Sorry for the delay on this, we had to have a piece of software custom written to cut up the existing long threads.
We have also decided how to handle long threads moving forward:
1. Threads will be closed at 250 pages (3750 posts)
2. Any existing thread over 250 pages will be locked as is.
3. The really long threads that were removed will come back over the next week or so. I have to shut the boards down to cut them up so I will try to do it during "off hours". We are also trying index them so people will be able to reference them.

I hope everyone is enjoying the much faster boards!

can we make it so if a thread reaches that a thread called (original thread name) part 2 will appear?

If I understand correctly and maybe I'm not I don't think this will really affect us. We currently only have 2 threads that are over the proposed limit. They are "Last one to post" and "RAOK" There's a third that is close. In general we don't have many threads that are ongoing, mostly topical stuff that go away after a while. Even all the stickies are not very long.

Right. The VMK board is small potatoes compared to the other boards on the Dis. Have you seen some of the Community Board threads? Heh.

They took the long rack your posts up with random stuff off the TB and it seems to be a bit faster, I think this idea is very smart.

The DIS ad will only show if you are not logged on to the DIS. It was in a test mode last week and registered users saw it but has now been fixed. Now, only individuals not registered with the DIS see that ad. To see what I mean, log out of your DIS Id, then click this thread. You will see the DIS ad. Underneath the title DIS ad, it will say "register to remove" and then login as usual and it is gone.

Interesting software that matched up ads. The last few I saw were Ebay ads for VMK stuff.
