if you friend books direct with disney he doesnt have to pay single occupancy! they just charge per room! might be a way to go for him

We did look into this actually, and booking a seperate charter flight, but this was when there were two of them, and they were dividing the cost between them, and even then it only worked out marginally cheaper than doing a package with Travel City.
Good idea though

I did notice a tour operator (can't remember which now) that had a few advertised hotels that didn't charge single occupancy, but they're all offsite, and for a first-timer to Florida who would only be going on his second trip abroad, we wouldn't want him to be out on a limb on his own, or travelling on his own either.
