We did 3 night Merrytime on the Wonder out of San Diego. Overall a nice little break (since we are from San Diego and didn’t have to travel) and the Merrytime festivities and decorations were cool. I’ll briefly list things we noted below.
Port - kind of confusing/disorganized compared to Port Canaveral. Drop luggage to left (south) of building and then go back and find correct line based on Port Arrival time. Not enough port people/cast members outside to make this clearer. I would not get in line too early or else it’s a boring, long wait outside. Luckily we had 11:00 PAT so pretty short wait. Once inside the port building it’s much more organized with lines and cast member help.
Did a quick walk around of Wonder, much tighter than Fantasy for atrium. Elevators are TINY. We chose stairs maybe 80% of the time. Lunch day one was one of only times we did Cabanas, just too crowded and chaotic. Was chilly so everyone was inside. Yes old muster drill back but we got to be in the Walt Disney theater so at least inside and seats. Sail a Wave was busy but we got good spots.
For dinners we got seated with another couple, also big Disney fans. They were very sociable and glad we had plenty of Disney and cruise chat every dinner. Server team was good and food was good but maybe slightly step down from Fantasy in September.
We got Rainforest passes and it was not crowded the two times we went. Super relaxing and stayed for maybe an hour each time. I used the gym in the morning and also not very busy. Cove Cafe is also a highlight especially on a chilly weather cruise The pools were pretty quiet with a few brave souls and some kids. Hot tubs little busier.
The shows were great, Frozen probably the highlight.
Pirate show was fine but very crowded and chaotic. Many people just standing on benches near kids zone which blocked views of many. Disney needs to have cast members handling things a bit tighter.
We did Palo brunch which was awesome. Well worth it and our most memorable meal of two Disney cruises.
We did fish extenders and got many cool things and had fun pixie dusting which also let us see many decorated doors which is always fun.
Since Fantasy was our first ever Disney cruise, the Wonder did feel cramped, with the atrium events (tree lighting, Santa, Caroling party) very packed and elbow to elbow. The chilly (by San Diego standards) weather meant less time on deck. We didn’t get off on Ensenada as we have been there before and had Palo that day and chose to do some Rainforest time in the afternoon.
Disembarkation was very crowded and took a while. Definitely slower than Port Canaveral.
