Any idea when they will announce the dates for the Merry Mixer this year? I'm guessing Dec. 9th since the member website says there is NOT a Welcome Home Wednesday that day.

I would expect that they will still have it. Last year the location changed and they offered fewer dates and reduced refreshments.

The Mixer is put on by DVD Marketing and if it doesn't generate enough add on purchases there really isn't a cost justification to continue the event.

They are still planning the event. About 2 weeks ago I was told that dates are still being finalized.

BTW, December 9, 2011 is a Friday so whatever you read on the website is probably outdated.

It amazes me that DVD can't plan more than a month in advance.

DVD could but the Disney event planners won't let them. Take a location like the International Gateway area where the mixers have been held in the past. That site can net several thousand dollars for a one night event (wedding reception, convention gathering, etc.) Disney event planning isn't going to allow DVD to reserve the spot months in advance as long as there's a chance they could lease the space for another profitable gathering.

Thanks for all the info. I hope dates are released soon!

The last Merry Member Mixer we went to was 2 years ago when it was last held outside International Gateway to Epcot. After seeing Dee Vee Cee there, I decided I could dispense with going again, so we skipped it last year.

I went last year with DFs. It was a very large venue and it was still very loud and crowded. We went to the first one, it was on a Friday. One thing that bugged me was that we got a calendar, I think it was a 2 year one, but it was only good for one more year. I think it was a D23 leftover.:confused3

However, we all thought the DVC Gingerbread Man ornament was cute.:goodvibes

Yes, Bobbie, the best part of the last few I went to was the DVC ornament.

We went 3 years back ... at the tail end and just in time to enter/see them draw for the basket. From what I was told by others who were there longer we didn't miss much other than a huge line to buy pins and some kid's music.

It was interesting to see. The kids scarfed down their rice krispy treats as I starved them just so we could attend (mistake!). I have the ornament, it's 'OK' and matches the pin I bought, but it's not 'pretty' and I don't like putting it on the tree.

Not sure if we'll make time to go to it this year (unless they held it at TOTWL that is :goodvibes ... yeah, I know that won't happen)

Hoping they have it on Friday December 2nd this year...... our family always meets up at Disney for the week after Thanksgiving.....

I found last years MM boring and cheap. So sorry I have memories of past years where I didn't need a "cookie coupon". While waiting in the "calendar line", someone asked me what the line was for; I had to tell them I didn't know, but standing in line seemed to be the one thing one could do at the MM.

And Yup, the best part is always the ornament. I wish I could just have it sent to me; they know my address. . . . I think.

I thought about trying to squeeze it in last year since we were staying at BLT but decided to not risk rushing to our CP dinner. I think I made the right decision!

Last year was the only one I've been able to attend. I took two friends with me and we were all quite disappointed. I probably could have gotten the same ornament from my local Doorway to Dreams Store. They gifted us the same ornament at the D23 Magic & Merriment event.

They DID give the same ornament at Doorway to Dreams! They sent out an email, I believe, witht the notice to go there and pick it up.

Personally I kinda wish they would do away with the Mixers altogether. Haven't taken a family vacation in December since 2004 and it sort of annoys me that only those who visit over a select 4-5 week period get to partake in these events.

We all pay our share of the dues and resorts are pretty darn full of members year-round. IMO, some effort should be made to offer special parties (with entertainment, character meets, free gifts, free refreshments, etc.) at other times of the year.
