Okay, we have a separate thread for Merry Eats (and treats) to be found at DLR throughout this holiday season...which, as we all know, begins today!!!:santa: :cool1:  :yay: And we have a couple of different threads about the holiday decorations in general. So I am curious about the holiday merchandise. Disney always makes cute things for holidays, but in certain years they put out some knick-knacks that are must-buys. Last year, the really clever doo-dads were the gingerbread Mickey (and other characters) magnets, ornaments, mugs, snowglobes, etc. - they all featured a gingerbread version of Mickey and/or a peppermint candy mouse head shape. (One of the cookie ornaments is my avatar here.) It seems like every year, there is some new little thing that is irrestible.

What is out there this year at DLR, beckoning to be bought? If you spot anything that is extra creative or clever, please let me know and post it here (or post a photo, if you have one). I have found that the Emporium is not always the best place to go. Sometimes, the hidden gems are tucked away in the Gag Factory in ToonTown or in the China Closet on Main Street. I am anxious to see what I will be resisting!:santa:

I almost guessed you would start a thread about this :) I am also exciting to see what I will not be buying....ahem. :)

Tee hee hee! And you were right, Krissy! I did! (Though it may take some time for people to actually get to DLR and report back on the knick-knacks!) Someone else already started the Merry Eats thread, so that question has been answered!

I kind of want to know what to expect in merchandise before I get there, because what tends to happen with me is, if I just stumble upon something cute in one of the stores, or a friend calls out from across the aisles, "Sherry, come look at this!" then I end up getting caught up in the frenzy of the moment. It's the element of surprise that engulfs me, and my eyes glaze over and I think, 'I must buy that NOW [or else it will be gone]!' And I then have to buy every similar cute item in the 'set.' So last year, I ended up walking out of DLR with a bunch of different cookie ornaments and a mini cookie picture frame, a cookie snowglobe, cookie magnets, a cookie/candy mug, etc. It is all cute stuff, but not all necessary! So I tend to think that if I KNOW what kinds of treasures are there ahead of time this year, and eliminate that element of surprise, I will not be so swept away when I finally get there. This strategy worked for Halloween stuff. Someone posted photos of some of the Halloween merchandise, so when I got to DLR, I didn't feel like there were any surprises waiting for me and I bought a Halloween mug and that was IT!!!:cool1: I kind of knew beforehand the things I might be tempted by, but I had time to think them through away from the tempting displays in the DLR stores, and was able to keep a level head!!!

So, someone please save me from myself and hurry and post info on holiday merchandise so I can resist the evil forces when I get to DLR!:rotfl:

That makes perfect sense! If you have seen it then the surprise wears off and you dont feel that you HAVE to have it. I am sure people will be posting pics soon :) I would but I am not going until shortly before you do.

DH and I have decided at the last minute to go to DLR tomorrow (without DS so we can do some "grown-up" rides. :) ) so i will keep my eye out for any good holiday stuff. However, not having DS with us (and only having a limited time before we have to be back) we might be going more commando-style and it's sometimes hard to get DH to go into the stores so i don't know if i'll be much help. But i will try! :goodvibes

Thank you! But I do understand how time can get away from you when you are doing DLR more commando-style, and stopping in shops can be the last thing on the list! I have had some trips that weren't typically commando-style and we still didn't have time to really browse shops! However, whenever I do have time on my hands to do that, that is when I get into trouble because I spot things and don't take time to think about what I really like or want. So the more knowledge I have before I get to DLR, the better off I am. Then I have the "Go ahead, Mouse - just try and tempt me with your cute cookie magnets and mugs and ornaments! You can't get me!"

Have fun on your trip tomorrow! :goodvibes

There is TONS of merchandise. It's all over Main Street, DtD, New Orleans Square, even the Pooh store in Critter Country. There is Disney Christmas stuff literally everywhere in the Park. Collectibles, art, mugs, clothes, pins, ornaments, frames, and on and on and on.

There are also some Channukah items in the Emporium.

Hey Sherry!

Sorry I haven't posted back about the merchandise. I haven't been back to DLR since then. DBF and I will be going again after Thanksgiving, over the weekend. But I'm telling you, there are a ton of cute things!

Oh, it's okay, Annette!:goodvibes I figured you either hadn't been back there yet or were super busy and couldn't post!:goodvibes I always know there will be cute stuff at every turn in DLR, but I have almost sort of grown immune to it, like I can resist a LOT of things. I can pass them by and say, "Oh, that's really cute," and keep on walking! But there always seem to be those certain little items that stand out...the ones that sneak up on me and demand to be bought!

Anyway, let us know what you see when you get back from DLR after Thanksgiving!:santa:

One of my Jewish friends who used to live in California and loved DLR, used to say that she wished there were more Channukah items and souvenirs around the park. She didn't even want to buy them necessarily, she just wanted to see more of them! She actually felt a little guilty for enjoying the Christmas decorations and knick knacks so much, but I told her that a lot of what we see in Christmas decorations is a more superficial representation of the holiday and not based so much on the religious foundation of the holiday. So, in essence, to appreciate the holiday decorations at DLR is really just kind of enjoying pretty lights and colors and trees, not a betrayal of her faith!

I went into the new & improved Timepieces today and they had the cutest little Minnie & Mickey snowman ornaments. Besides the mini ornaments, they also had them made from a big bell that you can hang up on a tree and they were also featured on a tree skirt. I couldn't help myself from touching the tree skirt bc it was soooo soft. I didn't get a chance to browse through all the shops today, but that was the main thing that stood out for me.

This list isn't very complete, as I'm going off a source that's not all that's specific. However, it should give you a good idea of what is available.

It features a lovely Christmas eve scene with Santa Mickey and his trusty reindeer pup, Pluto.

That was in the new Fortuosity shop on Main Street? The snowman Mickey and Minnie sound adorable. I wonder if that is the 'thing' this year. Last year it seemed to be that the gingerbread Mickey and Minnie were the kind of clever little theme, but maybe this year it is the Snowmen theme. I can't wait to see them! Thanks so much, Disneylvrforever, for reporting back to us with that! I was waiting to kind of hear something kind of specific about the merchandise, and that is a great start!!!:goodvibes

Thank you, glendalais - this is a great guideline to work with, even if it is not complete yet! Your list over on the Merry Eats thread is extremely helpful, and this one is too! I was surprised when I found most of the cute gingerbread cookie magnets and ornaments, etc. in the Gag Factory last year - way back in ToonTown - and not really in the Emporium. I assumed that maybe it was because more people tend to hit the shops on Main Street first, and therefore, the items sell out, whereas a lot of people either don't know there is a shop in ToonTown or they don't want to walk all the way back there to see it. I saw a few of the same items that Gag Factory had in the China Closet, but China Closet had a more limited selection - again, because I guess people shop in that store more than in the ToonTown shops, and buy up a lot of what it in stock.

Again, many thanks, and now we can all officially say HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!

Okay, I'm back from our quick trip to DL. I only looked in about 3 shops so there might be other treasures around but the most interesting thing I saw was the snowman Mickey and Minnie which I know has already been mentioned. Besides that there wasn't anything that clever or interesting. They had the usual Mickey shaped ornaments and character/figurine ornaments that had some glitter on them. Actually, i liked these and might end up getting one eventually but I they weren't anything unexpected or different.

Now, Sherry, are you ready for my grand total of how many Christmas trees I saw? Get ready...............here it comes.........(drum roll please).....FOUR!!!

Yes, that's right. Out of a possible 700 trees I saw 4. Now, keep in mind we were trying to get in as many big rides as possible in the 4 hours we had there so it wasn't like we were strolling around. I saw the one on main street, and i think 2 in HMH and then one by the DLH. DH said he saw several in a row on top of some bushes or somethng? I don't know. I didn't see them myself (he told me about them after we had gone past) and he said they weren't decorated but he insisted they were Christmas trees and not regular trees. We figured the other 690 or so trees must be in IASW which we didn't go on. Well, we're going back in about a week so i'll keep looking.

Oh, i did see the hidden mickey in the clock at the GCH. That one is hard to see!

Woo hoo! A merchandise update and a tree update all rolled into one! :cool1: Thank you, LavenderPeach!

First of all, you are right about that Hidden Mickey in the grandfather clock in the GCH. My friend has sharp eyes and tends to spot things before anyone else does, and she just happened to see it when we were walking hurriedly past it!

As for the trees - I bet you are correct in that a bunch of them are in IASWH. I just wonder if there were this many trees scattered about last year or if this some new thing DLR is doing. If the bulk of the 700 trees are strewn about inside shops and restaurants, then quite possibly there was the same number last year too! Wasn't the tree up in the GCH lobby yet? That would be one more tree to add to the list!

As for the snowman Micky & Minnie ornaments and such, are they thin, flat ornaments or bulky, round type of things? Anyway, if there are no more new cookie ornaments/magnets/snowglobes/mugs this year, I might be able to restrain myself from buying much of anything! The snowmen characters sound cute, but I MAY be able to resist!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks again for checking these things in the limited time you had in the park!:goodvibes

I was just thinking that I either totally missed the tree in the lobby at the GCH or it wasn't up yet. I can't imagine not noticing a whole big tree but I was tired and my guard was down as far as finding Christmas trees at that point since we were just about to leave.

The snowman things I saw were mostly round (spherical) but I think i saw some small flat ones too.

I was reading my hidden mickey's book and it mentioned the clock one and then i remembered you saying your friend saw it. She must really have good eyes because i knew it was there and could barely see it. I think being at the right angle helped. I couldn't see it at all when i was standing on the right side but when i moved to the left then i could barely see it.

Oh and this wasn't exactly merchandise, but when we went to the parking garage, they handed us a paper listing all of the holiday movies they are showing on ABC in december and attached to it was one of those car air freshener scented things that you hang from your mirror. It has santa and an elf (?) and says something about ABC on it but it smells SO good. It smells like a combo of gingerbread, cinnamon and sugar cookie. Not sure how many days they are handing those out for but I love the scent! That was our free souvenier for the day. :cool1:

Well, that is a nice treat! How many parking garages that you know of hand out free gifts? Only at DLR!

I love the smells associated with the holidays - gingerbread, cinnamon, peppermint, pine, pumpkin pie, apple pie, sugar cookies, cranberry, etc. For me, they kind of conjure up an instant memory of a holiday or a certain mood just by getting a brief whiff! Kind of like a sense memory thing. That is why there is such a market for those Glade candles and other products that have those scents. It really makes things seem holiday-esque.:santa:

You know, they've been giving out the air freshners for a few years now, but I've never opened it. At least I know what they smell like now.
It does have Santa & an elf on it, but the movie listings are for ABC Family.
