I started a pre-trip report a while back but can't seem to find it so I will start again! We just returned from our first ever cruise on the Disney Magic! We cruised 12/08/07 for a seven day Eastern! :santa:

The background:

Cast of Characters:

DW Tracy age 41 Disney fanatic (aren't we all?!?!?) :coffee:
DH Jeff age 42 wonderful guy who has become a Disney fan by marriage! pirate:
DD Alex age 8 (9 at end of the month) who has been to Disney 3 times! :yay:

We actually have 4 other kids (yours, mine and Alex is the "ours")...2 in college and 2 in high school who opted out of this trip. The planning for this started in early 2006 when DH proposed that we take this cruise in October of 07 for our 10 year anniversary. We booked a category 9 porthole view room 7/06 and started the count down! After the initial deposit of $750 on the Amex, we faithfully sent a check to allseas travel every month. We paid off the trip in June of 07. We booked Jet Blue round trip nonstop in March 07. Now all there was to do was read the boards and count down the days!! :cool1:

Unfortunately things didn't turn out as planned. Sadly enough, Jeff's dad became ill with end stage heart failure. :sad2: It had been under control for years with medication, but got worse over the summer. He was a candidate for an LVAD (heart pump...think Grey's Anatomy when Izzy cut the wire) but became too sick for the pump. September rolled around and at the end of the month, we started hospice. Our trip insurance wouldn't cover pre-existing conditions so we had some decisions to make. On 10/8, less than 2 weeks before we were to sail with the Cruise-a-Palooza's on 10/13, we called our travel agent. We changed the date til December at a cost of $503 and Jet Blue cost another $249 to change. It was a good decision as his dad passed away 10/22. We would have missed the last week of his life. :sad1:

The next month was difficult.:guilty: After Thanksgiving, we were finally feeling ready (more than ready after the long past few months) and started looking forward to our trip.

About 10 days before the trip, I rec'd a call and an email telling us we had been upgraded to a Cat. 6 Deluxe Veranda room! Whoohoo! We never would have been able to afford one so that was a really nice surprise! :thumbsup2 Then about 4 days before we left, I noticed that Jet Blue's prices for my flight had dropped significantly so we were able to get a credit for $252 good until 12/2008! Both of these unexpected surprises made up for the extra money we had spent to change our dates. :cheer2:

Coming up....Day one and pictures!

The day was finally here! :thumbsup2 After almost 18 mos. of waiting, we were set to fly out on Jet Blue at 1pm! After dropping the dogs off at the kennel, off we went to Jeff's mom's house. A taxi picked us up and we were at Logan Airport by 11:30am. After checking in our bags, we had a cup of Dunkins and watched the planes taking off. It was 14 frigid degrees when we left Boston. Poor us, off to the warm and sunny Caribbean!

We picked up a Toyota Rav4 at Avis in Orlando and off to Disney Coranado Springs hotel! We checked in at 5pm and ate at their food court. It was pretty good. There was a man playing Christmas Carols on steel drums!

Our room was decent sized and the pool was awesome! DD loved the water slide! It is a nice hotel if you're looking for a Disney hotel to stay in!

Coming up next...Embarkation!:goodvibes Let the MAGIC begin! :santa: (and more pictures too!) :woohoo:

Sorry to hear about Jeff's dad. But glad to hear that you were able to go on your trip and see the ship decked out for the holiday! We were on the Wonder last year at this time and really enjoyed all the decorations. We are avid Disney 'freaks' and we set sail on the Magic Feb 2nd. I can't wait. I have been reading all these TR on the excursions trying to decide what to do. BTW we are originally from MA too! We don't do Logan but fly into TF Green, much easier in and out of.

We checked out of Coranado Springs and drove to the port. I was hoping to be there by 10:30am and that's about the time we arrived! As we were driving, we saw this off to our left:

Whoohoo! Our first glimpse of the Disney Magic! We followed the signs and after showing our ID's etc. pulled up outside the terminal. A porter helped us unload our tagged bags and Jeff left to drive the car back to the Cape Canaveral Avis office. Alex & I went in and stood in a fairly short line to go through security. We went up the escalator and were in the lobby. Very cool! It was all decked out for Christmas!

Alex & I went to check in with all of our birth certificates. Jeff had his license with him. We were given Boarding Pass 4! Now we just were waiting for Jeff to get back to meet us. It took him about 30 minutes to meet up with us. The Mickey and Minnie were doing photos but the line was ridiculous so we skipped it. I bought one lanyard ($8.50) for our key to the world cards.

We proceeded through the Mickey ears into the atrium before noon and were met with applause as they called our names! Very cool! There was a huge Christmas tree in the atrium as well as countless pointsettia plants and garland! Gorgeous details!

We went to Rockin Bar D and made Palo reservations for dinner and went to Topsiders for a lunch buffet. Staff members handed out wipes to everyone as you walked in. We got a window seat inside and had a nice lunch. At 1:30pm we went to find our stateroom, 6652.

It was great! Nice and big with a large veranda! It was next to a handicapped accessible room at the aft end of the ship. It had an enclosed railing...I think we would have preferred a plexiglass one, but hey, it was a free upgrade!

We decorated our door, and off to explore the ship!

We got APL for our rotation, late dining, first seating. There was so much to see!

Coming next...Part two of Embarkation Day with more pics! :thumbsup2

Hi, thanks so much...I would highly recommend the St. John Trunk Bay Beach & Snorkel excursion! It was amazing...more on that later! PM if you want more details!!

Sorry to hear about Jeff's dad.

Glad to hear about your upgrade:goodvibes I bet it was nice to have a balcony. We were on the magic on Nov 24...the decoration were just beautiful.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss in your family.

Thank you for posting the photos, they are beautiful! Your door decorations are amazing. Looking forward to hearing more.

Ok, so we were off to check out the ship. Here is a sight you are familiar with~ the elevator! Dh was making fun of me for taking so many pictures of nontraditional things!

The sailing party was cool! We opted to go to Deck 10 and get an overhead view. We watched another ship sail away a few minutes before us and then the high energy music filled party started! Everyone was dancing and singing right along! Wow, Disney does it right!

IMG_0705.jpg

Later on, we went to see the tree lighting ceremony before our 8pm dinner at Animators Palate. It was really crowded but again, we went up a floor to get out of the crowds.

There was a huge, wonderful smelling gingerbread house on the way to AP. If you looked inside, there were lots of Disney details from different Disney movies inside! I don't remember the details of how many pounds of dough or time it took to construct, but it was pretty cool!!

IMG_0727.jpg

We had our 1st dinner reservation and as always with the first night at AP, the colors slowly changed from black & white to color! DD thought it was really cool!!

Coming up next...(when I can get to it LOL!) Day 2! The longer it takes me to write this, the less I will remember!

Hi just subscribing... LOVE your report and photos very much. I am also very sorry for your families loss. We experienced the near exact same scenario... June of 2005 we booked two cabins for Sept of 2006... was supposed to be DH, Myself, DD 10 DD 7 and Dh's lovely Mother. Well, one month to the day of booking his Mom went to the Dr, and by that evening she was told she had stage 4 lung cancer... She was determined to go on the cruise...but like your father-in-law she also didn't make it... by that Oct she was in hospice and passed away three weeks later. She made us promise to continue on the cruise without her...and she also paid it totally off without us knowing..and she also paid and asked for DH's two sisters and their families to go as well. So along with our 'normal' door decorations...I took a really pretty photo of his Mom, blew it up and added a 'In loving Memory, who will live in our hearts forever!' and printed it out on magnetic paper...So she was with us in spirit, and we got sooo many loving remarks about the photo it made us cry...even other officers on the ship would stop us and say "oh so sorry about your Mom"... So I guess word got around. She would have loved all the attention

I hope to hear more soon. I'm sorry about the loss of your mil.
