We are going in December and I was wondering if Disney will sell regular 2017 merch along with the holiday items.

They will if there's any left. They won't be restocking at that point. My recommendation is that if you want 2017 merchandise, you buy it on the Shop Parks app before you go. You're likely to see more 2018 merchandise by the time you get there.

I agree with this. We were in WDW in early December 2016 and there were a few dated items, but most of the clothing was either XS or XXL. Mouse Gear put out a fantastic selection of the 2017 merchandise halfway through that trip. If there's a 2017 item that you're really interested in, check the Disney Store park merchandise section or the Shop Disney Parks app.
