Mercado

I wonder if anyone can help with this question? We went to Mickeys land in 2007 and the Mercado site was being demolished. We plan on going back this Nov/Dec and were wondering how the site was coming on. Have they built anything on this site and, if so what?

The Mercado has now been demolished and is all fenced off. There is discussion that says the development due to go there has been halted at the moment.

Yes, this was due to become a VERY grand new development called The Square (under the Unicorp company), and the demoltion of the old Mercado was completed last year. However, it's our understanding things have again ground to a halt as there just doesn't seem to be the full financial backin to go ahead with such a grandiose scheme. Where this actually leaves the site and the proposed plans is anyone's guess right now, but I feel that, with the current economic situation, it may be some time before any redevelopment is complete

it is a pity, look how good pointe Orlando now looks with the redevelopment, what i8s happening with race rock, it seems a shame for it to be empty, i rather liked it as a restaurant.

Sadly, with the lack of credit availability, it seems a lot of developers just can't finance anything new right now. If things weren't fully schemed and paid for prior to August (and even if they were in some cases), they will just not get off the ground at the moment
