Menus/Recipes for dinner

Momsoftwoboys... prosciutto is italian bacon. It is more like a sliced luncheon meat than what traditional bacon looks like. It is also used in sandwiches. You can purchase it at your deli counter at the grocery store. we also cut it into small pieces sautee it and put it in peas with pearl onions.... very yummy!! Can you tell we like to eat???:goodvibes

Sounds like a winning plan. I am going to try it. I will see if it is in my deli... isn't it odd how you find things that were right in front of you all this time and you never knew about it before? On sandwiches, do you cook it or eat it raw? Does it taste like bacon?

Guess what's on the menu for Sunday Brunch!
Love goat cheese, thanks!

We drive, so I am able to pack food before we go.

I place frozen chicken breasts in a large ziplock bag and put vinegar and a packet of seasoning (Southwestern is our favorite). By the time it's defrosted a couple of days later, it's yummy baked on foil (no pan to clean) sprayed with Pam and served with rice. I make a tossed salad before leaving home and place that in a ziplock bag, too.

I also have made spicy shredded beef and froze it at home. Bring some burger buns and stuff to make cole slaw or cut up veggies.

Mac and cheese. Tacos/nachos with ground beef.

Bring frozen (homemade or bought) lasagna. When defrosted, it does not need to be cooked as long.

We rarely eat at table service, maybe only once a trip.

Momsof2boys... prosciutto is a cross between ham and bacon... italian style. It is one of my favorites uncooked on bread or a roll with provolone cheese!

enjoy!;)

Where are the barbecue grills near the HH at OKW and are there picnic tables there. Want to grill a couple nights while the kids swim?

Just FYI on the proscuitto: It is really a cured, dried, spiced Italian ham. It is quite "dry" if you know what I mean. Alot of the natural juice has been extracted out through the aging process. I just bring this up because it is quite salty (like pepperoni gets very salty after it is dried) and has a pretty distinctive flavor. A lot of people don't like it. I'm Italian so I've grown up with it, but I have served it to people who just didn't care for it. You might want to try it out at home before you spring it on everyone at Disney.

Italian bacon is actually called pancetta. It comes in a round shape, but is more like the bacon we are familiar with, with the soft fat and so forth. It is not nearly as dried or salty as proscuitto.

nappingbeuaty, I am definitely trying that recipe. My husband loves fruit in his salad, and I love grilled peaches--it sounds great!

My all-time favorite crock pot recipe:
put a rump roast or sirloin tip roast into a crock pot. Pour a jar of pepperoncinis over it. Spiciness level depends on how much of the juice you include, so you can experiment with it. Cook for about 20 hours on low. Shred with a fork just before serving. Serve on hoagies - YUM. I'm sure this sounds too easy to be as good as it really is, but you'll have to trust me on it.

The grills are by the quiet pools, and I don't believe that there are any grills by the main pool.

Anything that starts w/ put rump roast into crockpot has my attention. sounds like something the boys will love. Thanks.

Great ideas, it's such a help driving in rather thank flying. It's much easier on the pocket book, and not only that, but the DDP is IMO very expensive and is by far too much food.

Alas, 3 more long months to go!

ChickieToo... thank you for the clarification... I always thought is was italian/ham or bacon but was not sure exactly what category it fell under. I was certain however how much i enjoyed it!!!:goodvibes

Since we are staying at HH area I was really hoping there were grills there... if not we may have to go to one of the other areas one night to do our bbq!

I don't think my husband can go twelve days in the summer without grilling:laughing:

If anyone else happens to know if there is a grill by the HH I would love to know!

thank you,
Laura

Making this today... not to take to Disney as we still have 3 weeks to go, but to eat! Can't wait to try it.

I'm working on my list....am looking forward to see what others post. I've bought the Krustaez belgian waffle mix to try out in our Mickey waffle iron(read about that on another posting about cooking). Plan is to bring that down for breakfasts.....am thinking of taking a softsided cooler with sandwiches/chips/drinks/snacks into the parks....then for dinner....we've talked about grilling, but I'm a little concerned about cookingon charcoal(we use gas here). I know I'll do tacos one night(made with ground turkey, soft shells).....I'm still thinking....

Is this the waffle maker you have?

It's been recalled for causing fire, wiring is no good. I was looking for it to purchase, but instead found the recall. All websites said "not available", except ebay has some for sale.

Sorry to go :offtopic: , but thought I should post.

I don't know if BLT will have grills, picture it, elevator w/ a plate full of steaks etc..

The worse part about this is you (the person with the juicy/hot/smell good steaks) get into an elevator with a family who is grumpy, tired and H-U-N-G-R-Y!!! You might have some new friends!!!

Crockpot anything...(hint - you can always prepare/freeze any meal before trip and place frozen meal in crock pot at WDW)

Hamburgers (seasoned/cooked and frozen before trip) to grill

Chicken fajitas (Tyson seasoned/chopped/frozen bag of chicken fajita meat OR season/cook/cut/freeze your own check before trip)

We like doing BBQ chicken wings and fries/veggies. We are able to get all of that frozen at the grocery store. We also do pasta. Homemade mac and cheese is always wonderful as well.

You could do pulled pork or chili in the crockpot. Our next trip I think we will get a couple of pizza doughs and made some pepperoni bread. We have also done tacos, quesadillas, subs and baked ziti with garlic bread and sauce. We've never grilled but I think that would be fun!
