Menus as Souvenirs

I have read on a few Disney sites that the restaurant menus make good (free) souvenirs and I was wondering has anyone ever taken the menu before? Do the restaurants have a special take home one? Do all restaurants allow you to do this? Has the server ever looked at you funny when you asked for one? Or is it a common request? I never thought about taking one until I read it somewhere. I didn't even imagine that you could. Thanks for your help! Jennifer

Jenga,
I know everybody is different, especially about what they collect as souvienirs, and I am not against anything to be collected as a keepsake for great memories from all of our trips.I used to collect disney mugs/special commemorative types. But I got rid of all of them some years later. Now,the only things that I collect from my trips are just plain, simple, very inexpensive, disney magnets.Actually,I collect magnets from anywhere I have been. But primarily disney magnets.
Actually,I have never considered collecting menus.I have also read about others doing the same.Think about it like this:unless you have tons(and I mean tons),of space to store/display things,I probably wouldn't collect menus. After a few years ,they would really start to accumulate.Anyway, that's just my thoughts.
Lots of luck.

Nearly all the menus are paper (so far only CRT lunch pre-princess didn't have one, though we haven't been to V+A yet), and I take home a menu every time we go out, it helps with reviews and future visits. :) When they come to take your order, just ask to keep the menu.

I have dozens and dozens of Disney menus now and they're all in a single manila envelope on my bookcase. It doesn't take up much room. :)

:teeth: I get menus from every table service restaurant I eat at in WDW. We ate at V&A's in August and we got our own personalized menus. They're gorgeous! I use the menus in my scrapbooks. It's lots of fun. The only one that I recently got that wasn't paper was from the High Tea at the Grand Floridian's Garden View Lounge. That's a really nice one!!! Most of the time, if you just ask the server, I found they're happy to give you one. :teeth:

this is a cool idea.....hope i don't forget to ask once im there-- I can just see the expression on dd's face when I ask if I can keep the menu..... :rotfl2:

We were told about being able to "keep the menu" many years ago, but only asked for one once we had DD!

If it's a character meal, you can ask them to sign it when they visit your table. This makes a great (FREE) keepsake of your special meal! :)

My step mom collects menus from all over. She displays them on her wall in their sport/pool room.
I was planning on collecting the ones from WDW and giving them to her for a birthday or Christmas present. I thought it would be kinda cool.

They won't think it is strange at all. I have a few menus from the World and all of the CM's were only too happy to give them to me. Of course my most treasured is the personalized one we got from AP congratulating us on our engagement!

A lot of scrappers ask for the menus. I don't think you would get any funny looks.

WE almost always ask for the menus when we dine at WDW. Never had any restaurant even balk at the request.

We gotten some of the menus but usually it it because the server didn't take them after we ordered. It doesn't seem like they care if you take them or not.

GREAT IDEA! This could be something special for "mom's" scrapbook. The kids will have their own autograph books. Thanks for the tip! :)

I have never thought of taking a menu as a souvenier...I usually don't try to handle them that much because sometimes they are sticky, messy, etc. & just to think about how many times they are handled in one day & then how many tables they have been on. Oh...

That's odd, in all the times we've eaten at sit downs, we've never received a dirty menu, they're always fresh. I handle mine carefully, fold it, and put it in my backpack or camera bag.

Oh, and at that, you can always ask for a fresh, clean menu if you want to keep it.

We always take ours. I even have a beverage menu from 1900. I share them with people who've never been to WDW or to a particular restaurant there.
