Hey everybody! I have been wondering about Mama Melrose. We've never been there before, and I haven't heard a lot about it. I think the restaurant looks like it has a cool atmosphere though, so I'm considering it as the last ressie I need to book for our trip this fall. It seems like I read somewhere that the Fantasmic Dining Package just changed and each person can now choose his or her own appetizer, etc., rather than sharing things family style. I have searched the boards and cannot find where I read this.

Can anyone give me some insight on any recent menu changes regarding the Fantasmic Dining Package? I'm most curious to find out if the pizzas can be considered an appetizer. Have you done this on the FDP?

If we decide not to do the FDP and just use the regular dining plan at MM, do you think two people could easily share? I'm thinking if the pizza could be an appetizer, this would be definitely be the time to share. We will have my mom with us and she eats like a bird. We're thinking if the three adults could share two meals, then we could really stretch our free dining plan to the max and try lots of new places. Of course, we will also have DD4 (who will always have her own child's meal) and DS1 (who will be sharing with all of us). There is just no reason to waste a bunch of food when my mom barely eats anything - we learned this last year!

Also, any other info or opinions on the restaurant in general would be appreciated. Plus, if you have any pics, I'd love to see them...that would really help me in my decision making, I'm sure! :goodvibes

Thanks in advance!

Hi! We had the Fantasmic dinner package at Mama Melrose on Sun. 4/29/07 and were on the DDP and were able to order any app/entree/dessert we wanted! Hope that helps!

Thank you both for this information!

dddisrunner, was pizza considered an appetizer? I'm confused about it b/c it has a separate category on the AllEars menu. Did anyone in your party order to pizza for an appetizer? Also, what did you think of the place overall?

Thanks again!

I don't think you can share when you are getting the Fantasmic meal package. Because you get a 'ticket' for each meal you order.
So each person would have to order a meal, not share to get in.

Thank you for confirming that. I thought that might be the rule, so that's why I was thinking maybe we would just do the normal DDP if it is enough to share. It all depends on whether the pizza can be an appetizer. That is what DH will want as his meal.

Surely someone out there in the DIS world knows if the pizza can be your appetizer or not??????

The pizzas are now considered an entree. With the FDP, each person gets their own entree, or at least you'll have to pay for one to get the ticket to enter the reserved section. They're large enough to be an entree for one person, or if two wanted to share they'd be a decent sized appetizer, but that's not what the Fantasmic package allows.

In any case, we liked our meal there for the Fantasmic package last year (when salad served family style and a pizza were your required appetizers, though that's changed since then), and we're returning there this year for the package again. My kids, DH, and I all were pleased with our meals, and the atmosphere is very relaxing.

Great to hear, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm feeling good about this choice now.

That is correct. Everyone must buy an entree when doing the Fantasmic package.

We did the Fantasmic dinner package back in Oct when pizza was an appy for the 3 of us to share. Now you order off the regular menu. Overall, the restaurant was nice inside, we had good service and our meals were satisfactory. I wanted to do the Fantasmic pkg because I have arthritis and I knew that standing still in line for an hour would be painful and MM was the best restaurant for us. The pizza was very good and any of us would have been happy with it as an entree (and I don't even like pizza very much!) We all had chicken parmigan and it was good. My dessert was just OK, I wish I had ordered the gelato.

We thought Mama Melrose's was great! The atmosphere was nice and the service was quick and polite! I'm sorry I don't know about the pizza as we didn't order it. Here is what we did eat... DH had Mozzarella and fresh tomato appetizer with pork marsala for an entree. I had Brushetta as an appetizer and wood grilled chicken over pasta with peas and roasted red peppers with a cream basil sauce! It was awesome!

Thanks to all of you for your information! I really appreciate it. I think I'll book it tomorrow.

If anyone else knows about if you can order pizza as an appetizer, please let me know!
