But I wonder about the frustration vented here from the ladies. Is it so much about the ideal gift or just that some (not all) men just don't seem to notice the little things about the ladies in their lives?

I think that you hit the nail directly on the head. Why is it that after nearly 20 years together, my DH still doesn't know that I take my coffee with cream and no sugar? It's not that I don't appreciate it when he gets coffee for me...it's just that I cannot understand how he cannot notice something like that after being together for so long. {{sigh}}. His inattention to detail is just one of his many endearing qualities.

Where I work the men know exactly what the females in their lives like and almost always go out of their way to make sure they get everything in the store that they might like. You go guys!

The ones I hate are the women that come in after Christmas to return things adn are snotty about their male's choices. Then they want just the money back so they can buy what they want. That's my shopping pet peeve!

Keep shopping guys!!

Do you know what type of golf clubs graphite, titantanium , or we have' what kind of fishing reels we like or which type of car we would like to have or what . To you women shopping is like a sport right? So get to know all our sports stuff too.!!!!

I always have DH circle items he would like in the catalogs and then make my selection. Or I give a gift certificate.

And no shopping is not a sport - it's our life!!;)

Actually guys, I wasn't male bashing at all. Sorry if you took it that way.
I was finding out that all those times when I was angry at my h for not knowing all those answers, that maybe it is a male thing. Not a bad thing, but a male thing.
I thought some women might take heart in it as well, and not take it personally when they guy she loves doesn't know the little details.
And to take it one step further, I was letting the women know that it isn't what she wears or carries that men care about, it's the women themselves.

and I was asking you men if I was correct?

As for the men who do notice, thank you, you make my job much easier. :teeth:

They just don't know. I ask what colors of clothes do they wear? They don't know.

So ladies, unless you are naked, the guys really don't care what you have on.

Am I right guys?

My Dh knows all those things about me, although we rarely exchange gifts, when we do they're always great.

Ahhh.....I know all those things and many more. And no I don't consider shopping a sport, a skill maybe, but definitely not a sport. ;)

Toe rings are nice to see on a girl tho...

I ask a few questions on what the wife/girlfriend/sister wears, wants, has already. Almost always they have no clue. Does her purses have one handle or two, what color does she normally wear. How about size? Bigger, smaller, wider, deeper? "Dive in" or organizer?
Does she have a lot of handbags, or just one she uses constantly?

DH has always claimed I am "too hard to buy for". As of late, he has decided that it's just easier to not buy anything for me. The truth is, if he made an attempt I would appreciate it but he just doesn't do that anymore.

DS9 and I just returned from Hallmark -- our annual trip. DS picks out something for me and the wonderful ladies working in there help him -- wrapping it and all. All I have to do is provide the transportation and the cash. Works wonderfully. DS3 would love to have a chance to buy anything -- he's quite a little shopper and chooses the most thoughtful gifts that he likes -- not toys but cute little things like a coffee set he picked out for DH, dog treats for our dog. One day when he's less hands on he'll join his older brother at Hallmark.

It's truly the thought that counts. Serena, the men shopping at your store are at least trying. I give them credit for that.

aaahhh, your post has reminded me of the "sweater dress" DH bought me for Christmas 9 years ago. This thing was long, down to my ankles long, had little pearls ALL OVER it and enormous shoulder pads! It was a body hugging fit and see through to boot. I'm getting mad at him just typing this!

LOL!

Toe rings..one size fits all (or most...)

I leave no room for error anymore.

I go out and buy it myself, then hand it to DH to wrap and place under the tree! ::yes::

He'll probably get me one or two more things he picked out, after carefully examing the list I've handed him, what store to purchase it in, and what size, color, etc. to buy.

Cgcw, I give them all kinds of credit. They are out there trying. They don't know what to get, but they want the women in their lives to love it. I consider it my job to help that along. I don't think badly of them at all. I think its fun.

I worked retail during the Christmas season many years ago for some extra spending money, and whenever the guys would come into my department (accessories) I'd point them in the direction of Coach brand leather handbags! I remember selling 3 of them to one guy, the total came to well over $700! Too bad I was only seasonal help and not on a commission!

LOL, yeah I know. lol But most the other time, I'm very grateful I'm not on commision.
