Is it just me? I have never seen men in my hometown wearing gold chains - the men I know in the mid 40 to mid 50 age group wouldn't wear neck jewelry of any sort. That's my age group, though, so maybe the younger guys do and I'm just not aware of it.

We were on vacation recently and the pool was FULL of men - and almost every one of them had on a gold chain around his neck. They were a little younger than my age group but had wives and small to middle school aged children in the pool.

My first thought was "Ugh, get that thing off." My second thought was, "Is there a correlation between all that gaudy neck jewelry and your obnoxious behavior?"

Of course, it could also have been that there was an open bar and drinks were being served to people IN THE POOL, so as a group everyone was pretty drunk and just easing into the obnoxious category. But all those neck chains....

Do your husbands wear them? What is the deal?

Where/when were you when you saw this?

We live in CT and I consider grown men wearing gold chains to be a NY/NJ thing. We went on a cruise out of NY a year or so ago during NY/NJ's Spring Break and I saw more hairy men wearing thick gold chains than I could shake a stick at!

:rotfl:We were in Sanibel/Captiva Island over the 4th of July. We didn't really see many of the people at the resort until that day we swam in the pool, so I was unaware that I was surrounded by so much gold.

DH and I are 51, and I can't imagine him wearing a gold chain. Not a big fan. :scared: DS is 16 and he sometimes wears one of those shell necklaces, like this:

With he "dresses up" in his plaid shorts. :)

BTW Liz...we don't have to move at all on our next DVC trip...I always think of you when we book a trip, whether we get all the nights, or have to move 3 times! LOL "Gotta tell Liz!"

We almost never see guys in gold chains in our city (which is a college town) but we see a lot of them in Pensacola at the beach bars :goodvibes, so I've always assumed it was a military thing!

On the rare, rare occasions we see gold chains on guys in our town, it's kind of a redneck thang.;)

:rotfl::rotfl:So glad the DVC gods smiled on you!! We were at Kidani Village last week for 4 whole nights in a row!!!

And yes, I've seen kids wear those shells, but the gold necklace - ick. Too much for me. And I'm 51, too - maybe we are just too old to appreciate the trend.:rotfl:

My DH will be 45 in Sept, he wears a simple chain with a gold saint or something on it. :scared1: Somewhere around here he has a tacky gold bracelet hanging around. California born and bred. I don't know where he gets it oter then he is half cuban. My cousins that have half mexican babies put alot of gold jewelry on their little girls AND boys. I couldn't be creeped out more.

There is nothing that turns me off quicker than a man in a gold chain. *shivers* ick, ick, ick.

Sorry to anyone who likes it but it is pure disgusting to me. I can stand a wedding ring, a class ring of some sort, a watch and probably even a gold chain around their wrist. But not their neck. yuck, yuck, yuck.

I like to see younger guys in stuff like Mare posted. But not if you're over 40 though!!!

Well, when I was young :scared:, I don't recall boys ever wearing jewelry at all, and when he wanted to get one (I think it was at WDW a few years ago) I was very surprised. But then again...it's not like I'm well-versed in fashion trends.

It all depends what part of the country you are in. Some parts, you will see men wearing gold chains, other parts you will see men wearing multiple gold chains, and still in other parts you will see men wearing big heavy gold chains with big bad medallions attached.

Not here, but I too have seen it on vacation. To me, it always seems to be a NY/NJ thing also.

Hey yo, whads da matta wid gold necklaces? Specially gainst my hairy chest. Hey ladies??:smooth:;)

:snooty:Have you taken a look at the price of gold lately, much better investment than those funds that are a "Conn. thing"!
;)

OK, I feel better - clearly I am not alone here in my extreme dislike for this fashion...um, trend.

My daughter asked her boyfriend if this was a common thing - he said, "Yeah, in middle school. And even then I didn't want one." But he's a good Southern boy, so maybe if he'd been born up Nawth...:rotfl:

DH wears a gold box chain with a simple cross on it. His children got it for him about 15 years ago. He NEVER takes it off. It is almost always under his shirt so you would never know he was wearing it.

You say you've never seen a man with a gold chain? Come to the Jersey shore. Home of hairy Italians (chest and back) with gold chains. They sit on the beach greased up smoking their cigars with their beer bellies hanging over their speedos. It's not a pretty picture.
