Memory Maker yay or nay

There are several questions I have in regards to the memory maker.....
We are staying at the Port Orleans Riverside resort and we bought our tickets, park hopper and dinning pass all as a package. I am trying to decide on whether to add the memory maker or not. This is our FIRST TIME

I originally was just going to have the photo people take pictures with our cameras but then I realized to not go through the hassle I could just have them take them and spend $169 for the whole time. BUT I see people talking about upgrading their passes to annual passes and getting the memory maker??? Then I see that there is a memory maker and a attraction pass??? Then I saw you can just get them to take your pics and then after the fact buy the memory maker at the $199 if you think you got enough pics to pay for it???
How much is it just for one download, if i just want to buy the best ones?

We always get this for every trip we make to Disney and we always feel we get our money's worth.

Attractions+ is no longer available. Yes, you can decide to purchase Memory Maker for $199 after your trip. Digital downloads are $14.95 each. So, if you think you would want 12 or more photos, it would be better to purchase before your trip with the discount, getting it at $169.

I purchased MM last year and I am getting it again this year. I had about 250 photos for two of us, with 7 park days. With the ride photos, stopping for photos at the iconic spots, videos and animated photos, character meets, and magic shots, I found it pretty easy to make sure we got our money's worth. When I got home, I created scrapbook pages and made a bunch of shutterfly books.

I purchased MM last year and I am getting it again this year. I had about 250 photos for two of us, with 7 park days. Thank you that helps a lot.... I couldn't find the pricing of each download, so that helps to know if I plan on buying at least 12 I should go ahead with the memory maker.

WE purchased it and found it to be well worth the money. WE bought MM in advance so we saved the $30, and when we got home, my DD customized most of teh photos. It really is nice

We've gotten it our last 2 trips (2011 and 2013) and have it purchased for our upcoming trip. As a professional photographer, there is no way I would sell unlimited downloads/prints of 50+ (let alone 200, 300) pictures of mine for less than $200 so in my eyes -- it's well worth it.

I use it to create holiday backgrounds/cards as well getting even more bang for my buck.

I didn't buy it on our first trip, but I did buy five photos when we got home. The second trip, I bought it and made sure to get plenty of photos. It was well worth the money, especially since we shared with other families.

We get it every year, and although it isn't cheap, it sure beats lugging a camera around and trying to fuss with it. As others mention, we use the pictures on holiday cards, etc. and enjoy having the memories captured much better than we can do ourselves!

Are you going to scrapbook? Photo album? Memory book of some kind? If you're actually going to DO something with the photos I think it's well worth the $169. If you're just going to save them on your computer, maybe put some up on FB, then I say use your own camera.

If you DO end up going for MM (I do for every trip, although this upcoming trip I'm upgrading my AP so I'll get the pics), make sure to stop a lot and ask for magic shots as well. The magic shots are really what turns it into a must do for us. For the magic shots they'll pose you a certain way (with your hand out, pointing at something, etc) and then "magically" insert a character into the photo.

Do you have any intention of going back to Disney within a year? If not then pay no attention to Annual pass chatter.

I like to scrapbook our vacations, but was mostly interested in the ride photos. Is there a place to see the ride photos after to take a pic with your phone or camera? Or can you look at them online even if you don't get memory maker? I'm assuming there are no more photo pass cards anymore, and it's just attached to your magic band? I wouldn't care if there was a watermark or anything, as I don't just scrapbook the photos, I put maps and pressed penny's and all kinds of stuff in my books.

My husband and I debated whether we should get the memory maker or not, and ultimately decided on "next time", but with our trip coming up, I'd like to not miss those pics.

thank you, this helps we would not be visiting Disney for a couple years so I will not look into anything for the Annual pass. I have a blog and then I print my blog in a book, so all the pics would be handy for that

I hope it's okay to jump in with a question here. I have an AP, running out in May, but probably no WDW trip after our 10 day trip in Dec(actually making a first trip to DL in May, yay!). I have one day in particular on the Dec trip that we would want MM. Would it be any cheaper to just upgrade my AP to current value to then get the MM that way? Will the PP take only pics or can they video something for you? Never really used the photopass guys much, a couple pics that we forgot to go back and check out. TIA!

I also have an AP running out in May, and from what I've read here, you can upgrade to the new AP to take advantage of the Photopass pictures with the new AP. It's what I plan on doing. Assuming you have what was the "regular" AP, you upgrade to Platinum (I think, the names are all confusing to me) and it should be just over $100 rather than the $169 for MM. There's a whole thread about what you're getting with the AP Photopass entitlement, but in a nutshell, it seems that only the person who has the upgraded AP can download pics and while Disney has said that only the pics with the scanned AP band are included, in reality it seems to be everyone in the friends and family. Try to find that thread for current info and people who have actually done it!

Photopass photographers can do regular photos (you posed with the castle, for example), magic shots (like the ones with you holding tink, but tink is added after the photo is taken) and there are occasionally "Animated magic shots" which have some kind of character moving around you, but you're still just a still photo - for instance at SWW they had stormtroopers walking in front of my son and I).

I always get the Memory Maker. I love photos & make a photobook when I get home each time.
The cost is worth it to me. I think I've spent several 1000 on this trip & the photos are my memories so it's well worth the price. This way I have pictures of my hubby & me together.
I know you can get the photographer to use your own camera too but I prefer to just not worry with doing that.

Do you get more from Memory Maker if you have the Magic Band?

I would recommend it! I would also let the photographer know you have already purchased MM, and some of them do take extra time and the magic shots since they know you already purchased. We had one girl at Epcot that was fantastic, and told of all the spots in different parks that she could think of that did the magic shots. Did they all turn out, no, but we did end up with over 500 pics after editing. Was it worth it DEFINATELY!

I definitely recommend MM. DH and I are avid photographers but it is so nice to have so many photos with the 2 of us in it. This year we are hoping to have numerous family photos taken by photopass photographers so we have some just for fun with goofy faces and all.

Do you get more from Memory Maker if you have the Magic Band?

Yes, a little - you can only get a ride photo from 7 dwarfs mine ride if you have a magic band - there is no photo viewing spot on that ride to claim your photo( you also get a brief ride video) Also, on other rides, you need to stop at the photo kiosk to record your picture number or have a CM scan your Photopass card to get your picture into your MDE account, so that costs you a couple minutes. Otherwise, it's ease of swiping a band vs getting out a plastic card at photographers.

We got about 100 good photos from our 3 1/2 day trip in September. We always get it - the pictures aren't always awesome, but at least they exist.
