Memory Maker Strategy

Thanks and yes, you may ask. I use the GoPro HERO4 Session. I've been seeing them for $199 pretty regularly lately. Not the best if you want to take alot of still photos since it doesn't have a display screen but we love ours. We took it on a cruise earlier this year and to Hawaii last month and we really love making those videos for our friends and family to see. So much better than just showing pics and our daughter loves watching our videos over and over and over and over, lol.

Thanks so much...I was just looking at that one on Amazon. Not sure if I am smart enough to use it. We are going the end of July-August 8th, would really be nice to have. Your still photos are very clear. I have an older Nikon SLR and it takes pretty nice photos, but you have me beat. I also will be making sure we tap our bands on our trip.

Only if you want to go to the parks before you check in your resort.

We got to orlando on Friday afternoon and stayed with some friends at Ft Wildnerness for the evening. We weren't due to check in to our resort till Sunday but we wanted to head to the parks first so we completed online check in. At one time you had to go to a guest relations type place (Downtown Disney location for example) to activate your tickets but with online check in that wasn't supposed to be necessary, except my tickets weren't activated. So, we lost about 15 minutes of time to get in position for rope drop. Not the hugest deal in the world but I got there at 8:20 (no bags, etc) because we wanted to be positioned somewhere specific and luckily we got it anyway but still a PIA.

I called about this, too. I was told that if I want to use park tickets that I bought as part of a package three days before my check-in day, I had to do online check in AND go to guest services to get them released for use. (released from LIDO, whatever that means).

Do you need to find your picture on the screen then tap under it? Or can you tap anything as you walk on by even if it's not your picture?
You scan/tap at the specific screen displaying your own picture.

I'm sorry you were missing some of your pictures!
To others reading: Your ride pictures *should* automatically populate your photopass/Memory Maker account. Tapping at the preview screen at the end of a ride will result in you getting duplicate pictures in your account if the automatic feature did work. The photopass site is slow and cumbersome; having duplicates/extras makes navigating your photo account more of a pain. Personally, I don't mind checking my photopass account a day or two later, perhaps during some down time before bed, and making sure that all my expected pictures are there. On a couple of occasions when I was missing one, I was able to use the on-line "report missing photos" function, describe the location, appearance of my family members in the photo, approximate day and time, and the photos were found and added to my account.

Understandably, some people wouldn't want to do this on their vacation and may choose to also tap at the preview screens to make sure photos are captured, even if duplicated. This wouldn't solve the potential for missing shots taken by photographers around the park, though. Also some people occasionally have a specially posed "Magic Shot" taken and the "magic" is accidentally left off. In those cases, the only solution is to call or use the on-line report function to fix/find your pictures.

This is from the email they sent after I checked in online:

Since your all-in-one MagicBand has been shipped to your home and is also your Disney Resort room key, you may head straight to your room or even the Parks (if you linked Theme Park admission to your MagicBands). It's a quick and easy way to start the magic the moment you arrive!

I wonder if the difference is whether you are trying to get into the parks same day or several days before. The email you got definitely isn't the info I got...

It didn't occur to me until I was done making a video from my latest vacation (linked below for reference) but there are quite a few memory maker/photopass shots we are missing. We took part in a share so our cost wasn't that big but off the top of my head I know we are missing my wife and I on tower of terror separately, Everest (three times), Enchanted Tales with Belle (they scanned my band) and our photo from Space Mnt plus whatever else I just can't think of.

Is tapping my band at the end of each attraction the best way to ensure we get everything? Would we get duplicates since it's automatically go to our account on each ride? The downloading and editing website is HORRIBLE and anything I can do to make it less cluttered or clunky the better.

LOVE your video!!! Question for you...all stills and video were done with the same camera? In the video on the coaster (where you see all 3 of you) were you holding the camera? Thx!

We've got an upcoming graduation celebration trip and are grateful for the excellent and concise explanation. Photos from this trip will be more important to us than typical trips. Thanks :thumbsup2

The stills were either photopass or from our iPhone but yes...I was holding the camera when we were on Thunder Mnt together.

To make sure we have all of our pictures I check our MM account every day (usually during our break). It only takes a few minutes to log in and see if all the pictures are there. If any are missing I have a much better idea of when/where there were taken and what we were wearing. This helps them locate the pictures and get them put on our account. Our 13 yr old also will scan his band just because he likes to, so we get duplicates of the ride pictures.

Your video is wonderful! It has me so looking forward to our upcoming August trip. With recent events, some people have posted that they don't have the same excitement in planning their vacations. I think watching your video would help all those people get back into it!!!!!

Before we left I read a quote on one of Josh's blog updates on EZWDW that read, "And that is probably what draws so many of us back to Walt Disney World time and time again. It’s not about the concrete castle or a 30-cent price increase on soda or pork glop platters. It’s about returning to a place that makes us happy where we’ve shared so many memories with the people that we love and cherish. And you never know where exactly you’re going to make those memories. It could be biting into your first Jalapeno Cheese Pretzel at Epcot just before the 4th of July Fireworks erupt overhead or hearing Mickey Mouse greet your kids for the first time inside Town Square Theater. But whatever and wherever it is, it’s something so special and so rare that there is no substitute. And so we return."

This trip, a big part of the magic was my daughter losing her first tooth right there in Fantasyland and how special the CMs at Pinnochio's Village Haus treated her/us afterwards. She could have lost it anywhere. In the car, in Philharmagic, in the pool but no...she lost it right there in Magic Kingdom with the castle as the backdrop.

There is always magic there and I'll always believe in it.

No answer for your question but I LOVE your video!!! I haven't really felt excited for our trip this past week but that definitely helped.

Yes, in order to use package tickets before you check in (up to 10 days prior), you have to visit Guest Relations to have them activated. You cannot book FP+ with package tickets for those days prior to your package until they're activated.

That is not what they are telling guests is my point. I was prepared to go to Disney Springs and have them activated but after my online check confirmation email and a phone call I fell for it hook line and sinker.

The CM I spoke to said it happens "about a million and a half times a day"

That would be LILO - the resort guest reservation system. Guest Relations has access to it just like resorts do. They get all the fun toys. ;)
