Memory Maker Questions

How do they scan your mb? Do u need to tell the photographer prior to taking the shots u have the mm?
They scan your band with a hand held device.
Having MM doesn't have any bearing on getting photos taken. No reason to tell them ahead of time unless you just want to

They have a little gadget that scans it. You don't have to say anything. After they take the photos, you just hold out your MB, or card if you don't have a band, and they scan it. Easy peasy.

After you pre-purchase, is there anything you have to do to activate MM once you get to the park? Or does it automatically kick in once the first picture is taken and linked to your Magic Band?

This is a very helpful thread! Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing!

If it shows up in your MDE account that's all you need. Anyone linked in to your MDE will be able to scan their bands and have photos appear in the Photopass account. All the prepurchase does is allow any photos taken to be downloaded for free.

If I have mm and ride splash will the pictures magically appear in my account or do I need to do something after the ride?

You don't even have to have MM for them to appear. Just an MDE account and a MB. MM just means you won't pay for the download.
All the ride photos have linked just fine to our account. When DH and I both ride we get 2 copies.
But remember, this is Disney tech we are talking about. It's never glitch free. You can stop at the scanners and scan your band if you want, just to be safe

May I ask ... You mean "claim" is able to see it on Your Photopass account or being able to download those Disneyland photos? I am at WDW now and will be heading to LA next week for another 2 days. I have got both MM n PP+ but if the MM works in LA one too. I will save my PP+ for next trip maybe since there is no expiration on the redemption voucher.

MemoryMaker only works at Disney World. You will need to use the PhotoPass+ at Disneyland in CA.

Can I jump in and ask some questions about linking and times?

We are going to be in WDW for 1 week in Feb. We want to add MM for our trip.

My parents are snowbirds with APs who spend Jan-March in the Orlando area. They are linked to us as friends/family mostly so that hopefully we can share FP+ reservations.

They don't care about MM pictures when we aren't with them, but since they are linked to our account, I'm assuming some of their ride photos are going to show up. But is their timing (arriving in Orlando in Jan) going to mess up our MM? I know there are timing restrictions but am not sure how it's all going to work. I don't want them to go on a ride on Jan 1, have the photo show up in MM and someone start the clock on our MM.

Clocks only start when the first download is done. As long as they don't download, no problem

I checked with fellow Aussie BuddyEx and he DID link his photpass cards from Disneyland into his MM account and downloaded them. I am hoping to do the same as we head back to Disneyland just after our WDW vacation

Automatic!

Is this relatively new, and does it work at all rides that have pictures? When I went in March 2014 and was linked to my friend's MM everything I read online said I had to go scan my MB at the photo pickup place to have ride pictures show up in our MM account. But I didn't try not scanning my band, so I don't know if the pictures would have shown up anyway...

It worked that way (automatic) on my Oct '14 trip. I recall thinking from my trip research that I'd need to scan, but heard prior to the trip it was no longer necessary. At first I stopped and scanned anyway because I didn't trust it, but when I did that, I ended up with duplicates of all those photos. Everything I've read since says it's all automatic now.

Disney Magic! (Through the long-range rfid in your magic band.) If you don't have a magic band, you'll get a Photopass card (plastic credit card type) and you'll need to scan it at the photo preview area at the end of each ride. This method means you can't get a 7 dwarfs ride photo because it has no photo preview area.
So for the ride videos, you don't have to stop at the photo viewing area if you have MagicBands?

Correct. For ride photos and videos, you can keep on walking and it will just appear in your account. Mistakes do happen, so I recommend looking in your account a couple times in your trip to see if your expected pictures are there. If not, there's an online report form and/or a phone number you can call. If you know the approximate time of day, location/ride, and description of the people you're looking for, they have a good track record of finding any shots you need that weren't automatically linked for some reason.

FYI - there is NO photo viewing area for the 7D ride. Pay attention to the time you rode if you are worried your photo/video won't automatically get added.
