Do I really need to get this? Is it that amazing?
We are only going to be there for 3 days and I just am not seeing the justification on the price.

Also we are not staying on site so us second class citizens in steerage won't have any MB's to tie it too.

Can't I just give my camera to someone walking by to take a picture, like you do anywhere else on vacation?

Is there something I am not getting or photo opportunities we will miss if we don't get it (example Enchanted Tales with Belle, at the end no MM = No photo op)

Can someone please enlighten me?

I stayed offsite for the first 3 days of our vacation. I didn't feel like a second class citizen until I got to the TSMM line. Anyway, I got the Memorymaker for our trip. I loved being able to get the ride photos already paid for. Love me some Expedition Everest ride pics! I would try to estimate how many ride photos or dining photos you might be wanting on your trip. You might have enough cost right there to justify the cost of the Memorymaker. I know I love the ride pics, so that helped me to make my decision.

So if you pay for the MM beforehand, you get the pictures digitally and print them yourself? Or how does that work? Thanks

I am getting it because I am the photographer in our family and for once I want to be IN the family pictures! Also because we have 3 generations going, so it is truly a once in a lifetime trip, I want many full group photos and it is harder for them to tell a stranger no, than it is to tell me no - I hear it all the time!

No need to get passers by to take your pick. You can give your own camera to the photopass photographers and they will take a picture.

However, I have pre-paid for photopass on every trip. Personally, I love it. A digital ride photo is $15 and I like having them all. Also, if you give your camera to the pp photographers, they will take 1-2 pics. They take more with their own cameras, so you end up with a lot more pictures. Also, the pre-pay makes you more likely to stop at the photographers so you end up with a lot of photos with the whole family.

There is no difference with the way it works when you have a magic band or a photopass card. You get the same stuff. Only you can decide if it is worth it to you.

The last two times I went just with my girlfriend I found it to be completely worth it. We stayed for 5 days and six days at a time and used it extensively. I ended up with well over 400 photos each time, and quite a few we're really fantastic. Now if your only going to be in the parks for three days I would find it very hard to justify. It especially was nice at Chef Mickeys where they gave me prints in a nice folder right there on the spot (other tables they were trying to sell them for at $50 a pop) so that was a very nice surprise. Going forward I will probably continue to get it as long as they offer the $50 discount for the prepurchase. It was also fantastic for SWW for the character pictures I may add.

This is true, but on our last trip we were given the option to use the magic band instead of the Photopass + card. I declined as I have noticed that the photographers often spend a lot more time with you when you have the Photopass + card.

hmmm...all good information to know.
I will talk to my husband about it
That good to know about Chef Mickeys - do they take a formal picture or is it just at the tables? We are also doing a dinner at Crystal Palace.

is there a site online that shows were all the photopass stops are? Or what rides take the pictures?
It would be nice to know where all the stops are before buying.

Also if we do get it, we leave on Friday, and I know that if you order it ahead a time you get it for a discounted rate. So how does that work to pick up?

The photo at Chef Mickeys was a portrait that they do off to the side before they seat you. Everyone gets made to do it regardless if they have a photopass or not.
Here's an example I found on google.

As far as the locations and rides you can check out this link for the photographers in the parks and this link for the rides (an more info which I am not sure if the locations are up to date for.

Preordering can be done here apparently 3 days in advance. It used to be 2 weeks. I guess they changed it with the switch to MM.

so you buy then $150 pass and then you automatically get a CD with all your photos? Or do you have to spend more money to get the CD?
I feel like I read somewhere that the CD with all your photos and the stock pictures is another $30. Did I dream that?
ALso, I need to make a decision soon, since we will be in the parks on Saturday

For a three day trip, I wouldn't do it. On our first two trips with the kids we didn't buy the Photopass CD (this was before MM) but did on our last trip and it was so worth it because of the magic shots. Now that the kids are bigger and will go on the rides with photos, I am thinking about getting it in June.

okay so we decided to get it
I figure between a few character meet and greets/ 2 character meals/ a few ride pictures/ and a few other pictures around the park- it is worth it. My husband was also all for it considering we have very few pictures of all of us together.

So- I purchased it, and I pick it up at Will Call- is that at the parks or at my hotel or both?

Also I need to link my husband and so to it, they are already in my Family and Friends account because of the character meals- so does that mean they are linked to it already, or do I need to do something else to it?

Ah, I feel like such a newbie!

What do you have to pick up? A separate photo pass card? Doesn't it get linked to your Magic Band? And as another poster asked, do you have to pay again later for photos or a cd? :confused3

You can tell them you don't want to take the photo and they'll take you straight to your table.

Okay, there used to be Photopass+, which got you character meal photos and ride photos. For the $149 preorder, you'd get a CD with all your photos. They have phased Photopass+ out and there's now Memory Maker which, like Photopass+, you get character meal and ride photos, but you get your photos via digital download instead of a CD. And MM is linked to your MagicBand and controlled through My Disney Experience.

There's still regular Photopass, which won't get you character meals or ride photos, but you get your photos on a CD.

Yes, you pick up a separate card for the MM. You can have it linked to your Magic Bands too. If you order early enough you can get the card sent to you in the mail and link it yourself.

The MM package does not come with a CD, you have access to all of the photos to download for no additional charge. You can pay extra (I think it's about $30) to have the photos sent to you on CD if you want to.

Is there I away to hook the memory maker up to your app or do you get a package in the mail?

Just a heads up so that there is no disappointment for the poster having a character meal at Chef Mickey The PP photographer will only take your picture by the statue that someone else posted as you enter the restaurant

Bring your own camera as that photographer is NOT wandering the restaurant and taking your picture with the actual characters Either make friends with another table and take turns taking pictures or find a character handler that will be more than happy to help you out I go solo there all the time and have had wonderful pictures taken

Good to know- we will definitely have our own camera there.
