Is the Memory Maker/PhotoPass option really worth while as a solo traveler? Seems like a lot to spend of pictures of me with... me!

I was thinking about getting it as well for my solo trip. On the plus side, if you do get it, you will have pictures of yourself at Disney as opposed to just pictures of Disney. On the other hand, the price for the Memory Maker is $149 for an advanced purchase and $169 for a day-of purchase.
Alternatives to getting the Memory Maker would be to take selfies (remember, selfie sticks are prohibited at the parks) and to have the Memory Maker photographers take pictures of you using your phone (the pictures will not always turn out great though, because they take the best photos using a camera that they are familiar with).
I hope this was helpful pooh:.

I agree that having the photographers using their own cameras will provide better quality pictures, I'm just not sure if there would be enough photo-ops to be worth the price. It's not my first trip there, just the first solo trip & historically it's the people that you are with that make the picture. Buuuuuut since I will be there for the holiday season there will be unique settings. Decisions...

Personally, I've never considered the Memory Maker option on my solo trips, but now I have an AP for the first time and will be there solo in December for the holiday decorations. I'm interested in seeing how much I'll actually use it. It's been my experience before though that if I wanted a pic of myself with a particular background or character, that people are more than willing to oblige. I know I've taken many pics for others--a great way to talk to people when you're on your own. If I were you, I'd ask others rather than pay--but just my humble opinion. I'm usually not that outgoing, but people at Disney, including cast members by the way (they are very willing to help you out) are very friendly--that's part of the reason I like going even on my own. Have a great time at the World!

Agree, this destination probably has much better odds of friendly helpers than other vacations!

I have 55 days to decide (but who's counting ;) )

This is not talked about much on these boards because the groups are not allowed anymore, but there is another popular discussion board that still does memory maker shares. Ours is only costing us $30.

I had gotten an annual pass for my last trip, so I had the option of photopass downloads available to me. I did take a few pictures, but I don't know that I would have been able to justify the cost if I had paid for Memory Maker outright. It depends on what you want pictures of and how much time you're willing to spend, I suppose.

There aren't a ton of opportunities to just grab a quick photo with a photopass photographer. Pictures in front of the icons, the castle, the Animal Kingdom Tree, around the World Showcase, will be easier to get than characters. There may be a few people in line in front of you, but in my experience, I haven't had to wait too long for those kind of pictures. The characters generally have some kind of wait time. So if you really like and are willing to wait for pictures with the characters, then it might be worth it. For me, rides usually took priority.

I ended up with more photos of me with random strangers on Rockin' Roller Coaster than anything else. :rockband:

I would say .... Go For It. My bestie went solo not long ago and had photopass with her annual pass. The pictures where amazing and she had a blast. The photo guys added lots of magic to her photos so instead of the envisioned photos of lonely her, she had photo's with some of her favorite characters.

I paid for the MM the last 2 years I went solo. I got tonnes of photos. 400+ for a 4.5 park days trip. Not including after adding borders and signature. This year I got an AP which include PP, and I went with a friend. I found that it is really depending on who you go with. My friend is that kind... that don't like to wait type. Normally you need to stop and wait a while before the photographer is free. Ended up I took less photos because of my friend too. The two of us combined is less than 400 photos. And this year it was a 6 park days trip with MNSSHP included.

Remember that you can give the Disney photographers your camera to take photos of you with.

I would get the memory maker, but I like to have photos and I do make photo albums with them. It helps me remember my trip, since I don't have the greatest memory.

It would only be worth it for you if you take the time to stop and take the photos. I never did the character meets before, and getting memory maker I decided to also try some of those, and it was fun. I also like the Magic Shots, and little videos, oh and ride photos.

If you think that you would want to purchase 11-12 photos, then it makes more sense to pay for MM.
