Does anyone know what the difference between the memory maker and photo pass? Or can someone give me more detail about what exactly the memory maker is? Thanks!

Photo Pass is now Memory Maker. Kinda like fast passes are now fast pass+. Instead of a card, you use your magic band. We used it this past February and it worked great.

Can you still use a card though! I don't trust the bands. We used Photo Pass plus in Oct and Dec and a few times the photographer scanned our band instead of our card. Those were the ones that went missing. They did finally find them but I don't want to spend my whole trip keeping track of when and where we took photos

You can use a card. In fact, a couple CMs (especially at rides) encouraged us to use both. They scanned our bands and gave us cards to scan.

We didn't have bands- we stayed offsite

We got a card and used that. There is a number on the back that I typed in and it loaded all of our pictures on to our account.

Also any cards you get - via Enchanted Tales with Belle, Character Meals, etc also have id numbers on the back. You type those in and the pictures load. For ride pictures, you get the picture number and have them type it in and scan your band or card.

I noticed when we got home, we were missing pictures from our jake meet and greet. I called the number on the back of the card and she found the pictures within about 2 minutes.

Its actually a pretty cool system. I checked the pictures every night to make sure they loaded. We got a lot of pictures, but we also made it our goal to get at least 150 pictures (so it was a dollar a picture). We got well over 175, and then when I got home I decorated a bunch with boarders and text and what not, so I think total we have over 250 pictures.

Thanks. We are going back in May and I was hesitant about ordering it this trip.

The magic band is essentially just a PhotoPass card you wear on your wrist as far as PhotoPass goes, so you can still use either to collect photos. PhotoPass as a service isn't going anywhere it was just PhotoPass+ which remains a Disneyland only thing.

So, you cannot buy Photopass+ anymore? I went to the photopass website and it just redirected me to the MDE site. I guess Memory Maker would be okay, but I like to get the CD and the photos at the meals in hard prints.
**Just found my answer. No you cannot purchase photopass+ any longer.

Ok just so I am clear: You can still get the Photopass card to use. Is there new time limits on how long you have to access your photos?

Reason I am asking is I will be doing a 7 day cruise on the Magic then 4 days at WDW and besides making sure I pack the Magic Bands I want to make sure what my "time limit" is for when I do return home.

I believe it is 45 days. The links that are at the top have a lot of good info.

You can buy a CD for 29.95 plus the cost of memory maker.

Or you can buy memory maker, and then download all the pictures to your computer, put them in a burn folder and burn to them to a CD for free.

You can still get a photo pass card and use it and upload all your pictures. If you have memory maker linked to your MDE account, it will have a place where you can download the pictures. IF you don't, you can buy the individual pictures for 15 a piece.

We went to chef mickeys first, before getting to the park and getting our Memory Maker card ( we were offsite so no bands for us). The took our chef mickeys picture and put it on a photo pass card. We used that card for a couple other photos the entrance before I got the official memory maker card at will call.

We also got a photo pass card from Enchanted Tales with Belle.
All the cards have different numbers on the back- so I went into my account, and typed in the card numbers and uploaded all the pictures from the cards.
Since we had memory maker, we were able to download them all.

If you don't have bands, and want to use a photopass card that is fine, BUT you can't get your ride pictures on the photopass cards. Those need a memory maker card. Something about the barcodes on the back. So I would just get a memory maker card from the gift shop/ will call when you first enter the park and be done with it, vs messing around with a photo pass card. But if you do get one from a different event (like I said chef mickeys or enchanted tales with belle or whatnot, it is still downloadable under your memory maker account)

You have 45 days from when the photo was taken to download it. So, we started taking pictures on January 17th- those pictures expired on March 6th. January 18th pictures expired on March 7 and January 19th pictures expired one March 8th. They literally expire 45 days to the minute they were taken. I happened to log on and see some of our pictures from the day were gone, but some were still there. I noticed our dinner ones were still there, and then refreshed and poof they were gone.

Hope that helps!
