Memory Maker or Not?

My adult daughter and I are planning a trip this summer. She is a teacher so that is the best time for her to go. We will be staying 2 weeks and will have 10 day park hoppers. Neither one of us likes pictures of ourselves. She is totally against spending the money on a memory maker. I am torn. We did a trip together 3 years ago and we both agreed it was the best vacation ever. We have very few pictures from that trip and none of us together. I'm looking for advice. Has anyone ever gone with an adult child and gotten the memory maker? What did you think? Thanks in advance.

I think that there will probably come a time in your daughter's life when she will desperately wish that she had more pictures of the two of you together and she won't care how photogenic either of you are. She doesn't know it yet, but she will regret not having more reminders of those good times.

I'm not saying that you should get memory maker, but you should both get over not wanting pictures of yourselves before it's too late.

I did it last summer with my adult nephew. Created lots of memories.

MM may not be worthwhile for you, but you should at least have some photos taken (ask the first photographer for a PhotoPass card and have the others scan it after taking other photos). That way you'll have the option to buy one or two or a few. Keep in mind you'll buy a digital download, so you can crop and otherwise enhance them before you print them. I agree with Alesia!

I've been there twice with my adult daughter (well 4 times, but twice when they had photopass) and it was great. Lots of great photos, many memories.

I do not have adult children yet, but if I were going on a trip with my mother, I am sure I would love to have pictures taken with her from memory maker. With such a long trip, you will have so many opportunities to have some great pictures. Plus you get the ride photos as well. I know the price seems like a lot, but for what you get it is worth it. My husband and I went last June for a short trip (two days during our honeymoon) and we got so many great pictures of the two of us. When we booked our family vacation for this May, we did not hesitate to add memory maker to our package.

And this includes cool ride videos of 7 dwarf mine train and tower of terror

I couldn't agree more. We have a big family trip coming and are getting Memory Maker for that trip. We plan on taking as many photos as we possibly can.

I agree that it will be special to get some photos. They cost $15 each, so if you think you'd get at least 12, the price will be worth it. Ride photos and videos, magic shots and candid shots of you while you interact with characters before the posed shot are things you can only get with MM. You can also add borders, stickers and digital character signatures through MM, giving you multiple copies of a picture you may want (unedited and with enhancements).

Otherwise, you can always ask photographers to take your picture with your camera at photo spots and character meets. Have a great trip!

My daughter and I went last fall and I was not too crazy about spending the extra to get MM. It was the best souvenir I could ever have gotten. We had a house fire in 2003 and we lost many of the pictures from her childhood. We went around and saw all the characters she posed with when she was little. Remembering all of those moments...... priceless.

I am going to post my facebook status when I put my Disney photos up on Facebook after our October trip...

Thank you to my friends and family who "liked" my photo albums from Disney and Universal. These were photos taken by park photographers. I'd like to convey a message. Please, people...don't shy away from being in pictures because you haven't lost that last 10 pounds. Don't worry if your wrinkles are a little more pronounced than they were a couple of years ago. Family and friends like to see pictures of YOU...not what you looked at. You are wonderful to see for those who love you. They would rather see YOU than a picture of a castle, even if it is perfectly composed and lit. I actually saw this on a Facebook post and realized, I may not be the best version of myself right now, but I am who my loved ones would rather see.

Thanks so much everyone for your responses. I think I will try to convince her that we should get the memory maker.

If you don't want the ride pictures/ magic shots then just ask the photopass photographers to take pictures with your camera. That way you'll have the pictures of the two of you for free. EVERY photophass photographer in the park will take a picture with your camera, they'll take one with theirs first, give you a card/scan your Magic Band (so that you can see their pics online - but you by no means HAVE to buy them) and then they'll take a couple with your camera. There'll be no pressure, and though we've had Photopass+/ Memory Maker for every one of our trips - many of them ask to take one on our camera too - so I promise you they don't mind!

That might be a compromise for your daughter :) Plus that way you can take as many/as few pictures as you both feel comfortable with, without feeling you need to 'get your money's worth'.
