Memory Maker Linked to Reservation

So, I have booked a throwaway room for June. (Yes, I know there is a lot of controversy about this so please no flames.)

I tried to purchase Memory Maker online today using more than one gift card and found out I can't. The CM on chat told me I needed to call reservations to add it and pay with more than one gift card. So I called reservations and was very upfront in telling the CM that I may wind up cancelling the room and that I did not want the MM linked to my reservation but wanted to purchase it separately. He told me that was fine and helped me with my purchase. Before I hung up, I questioned him again, asking what will happen to my MM if I cancel the room. He assured me it would still be valid.

However, when I now go into MDE the confirmation number on my MM is the same as my resort reservation. I'm concerned now that I will lose the MM if I cancel the room.

I'm going to call reservations yet again but wondered if anyone here knows anything about this or has had a similar experience. Thanks!

It sounds like when you link it to your reservation which it sounds like you did, it becomes part of that reservation. Given normal circumstances ie you book a room reservation that you fully intend to use it makes sense that the Memory maker would be linked to that reservation. There would really be no reason for it not to be. I am not sure what happens from here but I can see how this would be a problem once you book a reservation as everything becomes part of that reservation on MDE I don't think they set the system up using the assumption that people would cancel once they got what ever the perks were they wanted. I wouldn't be shocked that the system will change to make it so that once you cancel the onsite ressie, all the FP+ made associated with that ressie would disappear. I am thinking if you want this truly separate from your ressie you will have to call and see if they can cancel that MM order and then make it a separate order.

I didn't link it to my reservation, the CM on the phone did, even though I very specifically said I wanted it kept separate. So I've spoken to another CM who has now cancelled MM from my reservation. Since I used gift cards, I am waiting for those to be refunded before I repurchase. This second CM told me the first one just screwed up because they do have the ability to sell MM separate from the resort ressie, like I asked.

I know that anything that is linked to the reservation, including FP+, will go away if I cancel the room, which is why I do not want MM linked to it. I have purchased my tickets separately and linked them in MDE. I just want MM linked in MDE only and leave the room as a "room only" reservation.

We'll see if I can get this done correctly when I call back next week. A little frustrating but I've got plenty of time before my vacation. Just hope the refund works correctly. :goodvibes

Why did you book a room you plan to cancel? Unless I've missed something, isn't the point of the room to get the bands and pre-booking FP+? In order for the band to work (at least, as best I can tell from my own experience) wouldn't you need to check in to get the band activated?

I am not "currently" planning on cancelling the room but if they open up FP+ advance booking for offsite guests, prior to 60 days before my June trip, then I will. So because there is a chance that I "may" cancel, I do not want anything else linked to that reservation. (I could care less about the MBs because my tickets are RFID enabled.)

Makes sense. If they still ship out the package prior to departure like they did with PhotoPass+ then you could just wait til you receive the package (and corresponding codes), then call in and cancel the room.
