For our upcoming trip DH and I will be in one room and DD and DGGD in another. I am managing dining reservations, FP+, etc. for all 4 of us on MDE. I want to buy Memory Maker and have DD be the one who gets access to the downloads. Do I just give her the money and have her purchase it or can I buy it and designate her as the "owner"? Also, can DH's and my MagicBands be linked to the Memory Maker in case we wanted to get a few photos taken when we are not with DD? As you can tell, I am clueless on how this works even though I have done PhotoPass in the past.

Short answer per my understanding of the research is yes. When I purchased the MM, it asked who to link it to as owner (options of travelers set up in MDE), I am to understand that you link them to your bands through MDE giving access to members your traveling with.

I haven't used Memory Maker yet, but my understanding is that it's set up like PhotoPass+ was, and I used that in 2012. On that system, you could link everyone's photopasses to the same account, and my understanding is that it's the same on Memory Maker, so each member your family's magic bands can be linked to the one Memory Maker account.

As for designating the "owner" when you pay? I'm not certain, as I'm always the owner of the photos. :) But I have to imagine that Disney makes it possible to do that - when you call to add Memory Maker to your package, just ask.

Good luck. :)

I have been wondering about this, also. When we go in June of 2015, it will be 3 families, in three cabins, but I will be paying for it all ( my once in a lifetime trip with my children and grandchildren to WDW). I am wondering if I have to purchase the memory maker for each family/cabin!

Cathy, I'm not 100% certain how it works across cabins, but I'd imagine it's like any other grouping. So you should be able to link everyone's Magic Band to your Memory Maker account, and you'll have all the photos together in the end.

From the Memory Maker FAQ:

Memory Maker – Frequently Asked Questions
Q.

I have purchased Memory Maker. How do I manage which member of my group it is assigned to?
A.

Before you download any photo or otherwise redeem your Memory Maker purchase, you can reassign the Memory Maker entitlement to any person who has a Disney account and who is connected to your Family & Friends list. Once assigned, that individual will become the owner of the entitlement.

To reassign Memory Maker, locate your Memory Maker in My Reservations in My Disney Experience and select the “Reassign” link. You can reassign Memory Maker to anyone connected to you through your Family & Friends list.

If you do not see Memory Maker in My Reservations, you may need to first link it to your Disney account.

Sorry, I pasted in the wrong Q&A. Under "Starting Memory Maker," it said (with the particularly helpful part in BOLD)

Q.

How do I start using Memory Maker?
A.

If you are already at Walt Disney World Resort, all you need to do is enjoy the moment and have fun. When you see a Disney PhotoPass location—or select attraction and dining locations—simply ask the photographer or Cast Member to link the photos to your Disney account with a touch of your MagicBand or card—including Memory Maker cards and Disney PhotoPass Cards.

You can download your Memory Maker photos right away or you can wait until you get home and download them all at once.

If you purchased Memory Maker at the advance purchase price, photos taken within 3 days of the date of purchase will not be included in Memory Maker and must be purchased separately.

If you purchased Memory Maker in the park, you may need to link Memory Maker to your Disney account before you can begin downloading photos. You may also need to link any MagicBands or cards that you used at the Disney PhotoPass locations to view and download your photos.

So, basically, if you link their MagicBands/PhotoPass cards to your account, you will have all those photos on your account. Doesn't appear to be a need to buy 3 separate MM's.

Thanks for your answers! That was the way I was understanding and hoping I was correct:). Now, does anyone know the answer to this....after your trip and you are home and have downloaded all of your pictures, can you then print them out, or take them some where to be printed, or are they digital only?

Cathy

They are digital. You download them to your computer and then you can upload them to any photo site and they can print your pictures or you can print your own

You can print them wherever. They send you the release when you download them.

I just did MM in February. TBH, I think the "assigning" of the person on the account is only for official licensing reasons. Because I was the primary assigned person on my account. All of my family is linked to my account and can share everything. I compiled the first download, but both my mom and SIL were able to download photos.

Important to note that once you download your first photo is when the 30 days starts ticking down. Which I thought was weird. The photos all expire 45 days from the date taken. BUT, once you request the first download is when the 30 days for the MM starts. Meaning you have 30 days to collect your photos. Any photos taken after that 30 days won't be included in your MM purchase.

I was able to get two trips out of my MM purchase because of this. I purchased MM in February. I went to Disney in February, took pics. Then, I went back to Disney in March for Flower and Garden Festival, took more pics. My February ones were going to expire about a week after my March trip. So I cam home really quick edited and did all that jazz, then downloaded all of them at once for both trips.

If I would have downloaded my February pics when I came home from that trip, I wouldn't have been able to have the March photos, because it only gives you 30 days from your first download.

ETA... On second though, they used my account to download the pics I think. I remember giving them my name and password.
