Memory Maker again... Have to use a card or band?

So I see memory maker in My Disney Exoerience but I had to choose will call for pick up. What am I picking up?? I thought MM was linked to my MagicBand. Will I have to carry the dreaded Photopass card- I always miplace them and we end up with 3 or 4 cards. Please clarify my confusion. LOL

If you HAVE a MagicBand, you won't have to pick up anything.

But, some guests DON'T have a MagicBand.

The "Will Call" for pick-up of a card accommodates those guests without a MB,
and works for those who don't want to wear the MB all trip.
And, also works for those who want to pick up a card for "back-up"
(which is not a bad idea considering the glitches that can happen with WDW IT.)

DH is a hot mess...he'll want the back up card in addition to the back magic band to go with the confirmation from the reservation all in hand at the park . This was a good question 3DisneyBuggs and thanks to you Robo for answering showing reasons why one would want to or not want to "pick up".
