My prayers are with your family. I still remember reading your fabulous trip report, and my heart breaks now just thinking about it. I am so glad that Emma had such a wonderful grandma to take her on a Disney World and Cruise vacation, not many grandchildren ever have that opportunity ! DW and I do a fair bit of Ebaying and I have a US Premier Business account w/ Paypal.

As such, I can setup donation buttons and I just created one for this.

I can let people use it, if a) I have permission to do so and b) people trust me to send the final amount to the family. What I'm envisioning is having donations made to the account, then I would just write a check off of it and mail it over (or I suppose I could get a money order too).

I've never done this before, but it looks extremely easy. I will post the code here and you should be able to click on the "MAKE DONATION" button.

Again, I don't know if this should be *official* yet. I was just messing around with paypal to see if I could get it to work. I'm more than happy to do this for everyone here, but whatever the masses agree upon.

Let's see if this works:

*edit* - Ok - it didnt work. I can host the donation button on my site, but before I post the address, I would like a "nod" from a few of you to go ahead and do this. I don't want to presume that I am the one to take charge of this without everyone else's blessings.

The bank who is holding the memorial fund contacted me to find out about doing a paypal account...but I haven't seen them do anything yet. I'll let everyone know as soon as they tell me anything. Perhaps they are all quite busy with other issues related to helping the family.

Anyway, we will keep sending prayers!!

Hello all....just wanted to let you know that unfortunately I can relate to this....on July 4th we had a horrific house fire and we lost our entire house and our 4 cats and 2 dogs....luckily my wife and daughter did get out by the grace of our neighbor who lives behind us and heard the noise of the burning of the fire....we did not lose any adult members of the family but losing our animal family members was a killer....could not imagine losing family members...especially a small child....my prayers go out to the family....and I must say that people in America do not know how lucky we are....the American Red Cross was right there to help us and family friends and neighbors helped immensly....we will be cruising on December 4th....unfortunately we will not be back in our home until the beginning of next year.....but we have a lot to be thankful for....prayers go out to all.....

Well I just said I could create a paypal button for people to donate, but someone else in here said that the bank was doing it, too. I hope they set it up soon because I'd like to donate as well!

Just thought I'd give everyone the latest - I heard from the bank today and they seem to be running into ... shall we say...technical problems....as to how to get this working. It sounded more policy driven than computer driven if you know what I mean. I'm having doubts if they can/will do this.

I work in a Bank - and I can imagine this is not so easy for them. There are always issues around an "outside vendor" like Paypal being used by a Bank - does it go against any policy, what about security blah blah....so while it was a good idea, I wouldn't count on the Bank being able to set anything up directly.

From Canada it is quite easy to get a money order at any bank in USD and send that to the address indicated at the beginning of the post.
