Membership Magic Beyond

We’re west coast Disneylanders, so the lounge access is definitely not the reason we purchased MMB. We’ve already gotten tremendous value from the discounted tickets and the OTU points. If they dropped the lounge access from the benefits next year it wouldn’t factor into whether or not we purchase again.

Curious, both myself and wife ARE on contract, can we both purchase and double up on discounts. OTUP? 24 FOR 12?
Nope - just like ‘regular’ OTU points - it’s per membership - not member…
Now, if you had multiple memberships - you could each purchase MMB and ‘double up’.

Except it says right in the benefits page that capacity limits might apply, so it’s more of a mater of IF you can be added to the waitlist, then you’ll get priority over non-MMB members. If the waitlist is full, it doesn’t matter who’s on it. They aren’t going to boot someone off the waitlist just because someone else rolls up flashing their $99 DVC-MB. I take that to also mean that even if the waitlist isn’t full, but the lounge is, then you’re still waiting like everyone else.
Yeah I get the capacity thing but if “priority access when the lounge goes to waitlist” which is clearly an advertised benefit then to me it means exactly that … the only waitlisters that shouldn’t be ‘bumped’ back (and possibly out) would be other MBB holders … as I stated perhaps all waitlisters were MBB but I have my doubts … if this isn’t the case then cast member may just be ill informed … not a huge deal to me but I’m sure I wasn’t the only one surprised by the situation …

Adam the Woo said they told him they were not using the MBB on that first day. So a buyer who bought direct and paid high dollar for those points, but did not buy MBB, could be essentially bumped down or out of a waitlist?

“Priority access when the lounge goes to waitlist” …. You tell me …

See I don’t see it that way nor interpreted it that way. If you arrive and there is no waitlist open, then you have nothing to be put on.

And, what happens when all are MMB…no bumping.

I also don’t expect that being MMB jumps me to the front but rather my time will be shorter than those who are already on it.

Especially when it says “from time to time” and “subject to capacity limits”.

Who on God’s green Earth would wait seven hours for a lounge? If you need a break, I get that… but you don’t need it seven hours from now…. You need it soon.
The entire thing seems a bit silly.
Got shut out of the lounge at MK today despite being MMB or whatever it’s called … got there prior to 2pm and cast member said they were booked up and not taking anymore waitlist names for the rest of the day but they did offer the consolation prize of a free magnet … seemed queer but I guess the remote possibility exists that everyone on the waitlist for the rest of the 7 hours of the day was MMB …otherwise it would be kinda like DVC not fulfilling a benefit I just paid for and I know Disney would never do that

Right I said if all other waitlisters are MMB then I get not ‘getting priority’ but if I don’t get priority over non MMB because they beat me to the waitlist what exactly is the benefit? My understanding in reading prior posts (here?) was that an MMB walks up he goes basically go the head of the line in front of any non MMB waitlisters ….so in this scenario absent the alleged capacity issue where on the waitlist would I have fallen? Last? Ahead of any non MMB? Idk

If the ‘benefit’ is an MMB puts his name on the waitlist behind non MMB then there is no benefit … frankly I don’t really care as we don’t use the lounges much but I just found it to be basically a snake oil ‘benefit’ if what happened the other day is the policy … it would be like telling ILL purchasers that the standby line put the ride at capacity for the day and the ‘ILL benefit’ you paid for is useless … seems to me they just need to eliminate it to get rid of it to avoid confusion instead of selling something they apparently can’t fulfill …

Agree it’s ludicrous

And that is where I think we differ in our understanding of what it meant.

If there is a waitlist open…then you get a priority return time over someone who might be checking in the same or similar time.

Not that it meant you jump everyone who is not MMb

So, if the waitlist for those without MMB is an hour, and you have MMB, yours might be 30 minutes.

Priority to me didn’t mean jump in front of every non MMB who was already in line.

Basically, I see it as two lists….and that with MMB you are getting a shorter wait but not front of line pass.

To be honest, I don’t expect lines this long regularly. I think once we get through a few weeks, it will be waitlists like normal.

If a non MMB would have 30 minutes, you might now get 10 minutes…and that is priority.

My first reaction to the MK lounge was: "Yeah, that's never going to be useful." I expect "you can probably come back in three hours" will be the norm, which transforms it from a place to take a break to more of A Special Thing That Normal People Can't Do.

No thanks.

We differ in interpretation as to what Disney was SELLING as a benefit, not giving for free as the other member benefits. Selling ‘priority access’ and then not really delivering on that is what it appears they may be doing. It was one of the first days so perhaps the cast member was ill informed but when he advised me the waitlist was cutoff I responded ‘that the priority access thing really was of no benefit then, he affirmed … again not a big deal, I was just letting other folks that believe priority access actually meant something might be in for a rude awakening …

So that means jumping over folks already on a list which is exactly what priority means to me … the difference in our belief is how many people get jumped over … I believe it’s front of the non mmb line but you believe it’s somewhere in between, issue is idk if Disney knows what it actually means

That is true....we don't know...but my guess is that outside of what we saw this week, and may see for a bit because this is new, the typical waitlist won't be hours long or be stopped, and that in practice, it will be much shorter.

It also has to be based on group size as well....if I someone shows up with two as a non MMB, and someone else shows up with 6 as an MMB, and three spots open, they are going to send in those who can fit....

If you look at the way LL works for rides...they do send in LL but if the LL line is long, they stop and send some standby in too....I have been in LL and had to wait as they mixed standby and LL guests....which is probably why I view this the same way..

Yea, this seems like the best comparison. Pay a little extra for a faster line.

I'm reading through the posts and am absolutely amazed at how big a deal the DVC lounges are to some members. Never expected it. I think we've been in the EP lounge 3 times since it's opened, and once was to recharge an ECV that was running low! I'm sure we'll check in on the MK lounge to see what it's about, but certainly not getting on a waitlist for it!! Just us........

I just tend to think if Disney can do this with a lounge, (not that huge of a benefit to me) could they use the same concept on other things? They couldn't do booking windows with this concept? Could they? Early Entry into the parks? Extended Evening Hours?

Booking windows have to do with the contract and the resort.

For home resort, all owners have to have the same rules…FL law requires it…and our contract guarantees us just one month…we get four.

All owners of a resort, no matter how they acquired points, gets the same rules.

Now, for trades, it’s based on the rules as to how it enters into BVTC, but again, the rules are based on the DVC Resort agreement and not owners.

If BVTC were to charge for all trades…which they are allowed to do per contract…theoretically DVD could pay the fee for those with membership extras or a paid program.

The other things you mention having nothing to do with DVC and apply to all onsite guests.

In that case, Disney can do what they want.

Just to be clear I really don’t care about the lounges … don’t drink soda, don’t eat chips, can figure out a way to get out of the heat or find a seat when I am in need and I am able to plan ahead enough to make sure my devices remain charged for the day .. the point is I was SOLD something that apparently doesn’t exist and so was everyone else that bought whether you care about it or not… i bet if the naysayers went to get the free OTUP and were told sorry we are sold out today they would be throwing a fit here and everywhere else they could rip Disney … I could post that puppies are cute and cuddly and there are those here that would argue I was FOS … nature of the beast
