i was looking into buying a resale contract and i know that you are not allowed to use your resale points anymore for cruising but can you still go on the DVC members cruise and pay with cash? or do you have to have direct buy with disney to go on the members cruise to pay with cash?

I believe this year it was "blocked" to members who bought resale after a certain date. I would not let that stop me as the Member cruise actually costs MORE then a normal cruise so I am not sure why it's such a "draw" "Gee honey, we can spend more then the folks sailing next week. Plus we get a lot of DVC merchandise to assist us in advertising for them" LOL!

I think if you have some direct points you can pay cash for the member cruise.

I've been on two, and for me, the special entertainment makes the cruise worthwhile. One of the shows this year featured 4 stars from Disney Broadway shows, including the present Mufasta. The presentation was excellent! I was thrilled to be there!

Sounds like they may have upped the ante. I was really unimpressed with what I heard from the cruises over the past few years and decided not to worry about going on one anytime soon.

The first years sounded great, but then it seemed to be more of a giant sales pitch....hopefully the "slowdown" in sell out made them realize they had to do more then tell us about the "next great offer" LOL!

How much you want to bet the next big member offer will be a member's only Adventure by Disney?

They already have the Members Only Adventure's by Disney. They have run a couple to various locations in the last few years, for "DVC Members Only" plus this year they are offering a DVC Members Only Special Itinerary in NYC. This one is not available to the general public at any time. The points for the NYC trip were actually not that bad compared to what ABD usually costs.

My only complaint is that as DVC members we are trained to plan and book (and hence use our points) far in advance. as that is the best way to get the ressies that you want. Then in January 2013 they announce special trips for Summer of 2013. I know I don't have any points left for this year or next year as my vacations are already booked. So to me, these types of specials are essentially pretty worthless.

Agreed! If they want to offer us trips on points then they need to schedule further out. We had booked the October New York trip on cash (since, yes, points are long gone) but my daughter is expecting at that time so we cancelled. Sure hope they offer it again as I have been asking them for a NY ABD for years :)
