This is not a smoker bashing thread. This thread is for non-smokers going on the 2005 Members Cruise. There are other threads, or you can start your own thread, if you want to debate smoking.

I would like to suggest that all non-smokers who want a verandah request a cabin on the port side of the ship. There will still be smokers on the port side but fewer of them if all of the non-smokers request port.

I agree with DV that starboard might be better. You'll have better views while leaving port Canaveral, better views of the sunset as you travel South, and you'll be on the dock side while at Castaway Cay.

Better yet....ban smoking on the entire boat! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I don't think we will have much of a choice. I think we will just have to take whatever cabin is available. With the exception of the lucky few that get answered within the first few minutes

If we are lucky enough to get in, and if when we do we have a choice, we're picking starboard. Of course we are looking at getting a Navigator verandah if you can and smoke doesn't come into those as much as a regular verandah.

PS to Robin - sounds like you are going :D

How to get the cabin of your choice. When you finally get through to make your cruise reservations you can request a cabin number and if it is available, you get it. Go to the official Disney Cruise web site and look at the deck plans. Pick several cabins and have the numbers ready when you speak to member services. This has worked for me. pirate:

There has only been one DVC Member Cruise thus far, so unless you participated in the mad rush to sign up for that one (I did! :)) you really cannot compare it to calling MS and selecting your choice of stateroom.

TnRobin is correct. Only the very first few to get through will be so lucky....

Yes, I did participate in the mad scramble for the first Membership Cruise and I also got what I asked for. I was suggesting that you have a deck plan of the ship in front of you when you call and have several choices in mind.

The point of this thread is to try to get verandah cabins on one side of the ship filled with as many non-smokers as possible.

Carol, nice wedding photos. Thanks for posting them.

When we booked our upcoming cruise with MS, it seemed that they had to go to DCL for any information regarding rooms. For the Members Cruise, is it any different, you mention a room, or rooms, and the CM has to get back to you, or will the CM have the information right there?

Bobbi:boat:

Can't hurt to ask and we could all have a more magical time. Wish they would implement such an idea as policy.

:sunny:

No it never hurts to ask and you will not get what you do not ask for.

Just being the realist that I am. I save the optimist part of me for vacations at Disney.

Mary -- we are still struggling with the decision. It is just so close to our Nov cruise and to Christmas. The CPA in me just hates to let go of that amount of money. But the DVCer in me soooooo wants to go.

DH and I would prefer to have a verandah in a non-smoking area too! I wasn't aware that you could specify a particular cabin. It's worth a try to have a few numbers ready I guess. Annmarie

When booking a cruise, you can reserve a particular stateroom if it is available. That's how most staterooms are booked.

The problem with using this board to designate a smoking and a nonsmoking side for Verandah staterooms is that DIS participants are only a small fraction of the passengers on any Disney cruise, even on a DVC member cruise.

Horace, you are correct. This discussion board only reaches a small fraction of the DVC members but we can get something started and if this is a good idea, the idea may catch on.

All together now, Non-Smokers Port!

There was a question about whether or not you could request a spicific cabin. You can. I requested a certain cabin which turned out to have been taken but I got the closest one to it three cabins down.

As has been stated, what you don't ask for you don't get.:bounce:

Yep we got exactly what we wanted as well. A cat 7 on the starboard side!
