Member website for shopping?

We've just returned from a long weekend at WDW and found that SSR had more DVC merchandise than back in July. We picked up two DVC keychains that are in the shape of a gold key, with the DVC logo on the front and the inscription "Disney's Vacation Club Member" on the back. Nice little item - look for them when you visit!

Oh my goodness! That's the key ring I spent an entire trip looking for!!!! I'll be there in two weeks, staying at OKW. But I'm going to be sure to get over to SSR if OKW doesn't have them! Thanks for the info!:thumbsup2

The other item I couldn't find anywhere was the vehicle decal with the mountains. That's just about non-existant! I have one on my mini-van now, but I want one for my next vehicle. It wouldn't be mine if I didn't "Disney" it up!:goodvibes

Thanks for the link too! I found the window decals! Now it both things would just stay put until I get there. ;)

I think they had the window decals also, so SSR will definitely be worth the boat ride over to!!

I am a new DVC member and would buy up everything if they sent me a nice little catalog - Disney are you listening?

I definitely agree...they should have a website or a catalog or something! I would definitely buy DVC merchandise to show that I'm proud to be a member!

I'm forced to take an analytical approach to the topic. Have we ever known Disney to miss a sure-fire money-making opportunity? ;)

Admittedly I'm speaking in generalities, but I assume most people interested in mail order merchandise are newer members. I know that by the time I made 3-4 trips as a member, I had little interest in buying any more stuff. Before that I bought a few items myself, and DVC does a pretty good job with the handouts at weekly member meetings, cruises, parties, etc.

Disney stocks the theme parks with items designed to appeal to tens-of-millions of annual guests. In DVC you have a much, much smaller audience and I think it's reduced further by apathy exhibited by a large block of veteran members.

On a number of occasions DVC has referred members to the Merchandise Mail Order staff at WDW to buy items. Until we see Disney go in another direction, I have to assume that they don't believe it would be worth their while to expand the mail order DVC offerings.

I've been told DVC did have a catalog at one time but phased it out 8-10 years ago. So they do have some basis for making these decisions.

We purchased our first DVC membership in 2002 and took our first points trip to a DVC resort in 2003 -- VWL. At that time the gift shop had quite a nice selection of general DVC merchandise and resort specific DVC merchandise. It seems like every trip there is less of a selection of the general stuff and hardly anything resort specific!

I can understand the logic that after a few trips owners no longer feel the need to purchase DVC stuff, but with the way DVC is building resorts and selling points I think that they would have a captive audience for years to come!!!

We might be a minority, that would purchase DVC items, especially if one is a long time member. However if and when they added new DVC items, I might be interested in them. I have a DVC umbrella that I won at Welcome Home Wednesday, and it is a great item. We use our DVC canvas bags all the time when traveling. I would LOVE a VWL DVC jacket, or other resort specific DVC item.
With all the new members buying AKL, BLT, and VGC, I would think Disney would want to strike while the iron is hot. I think Disney is missing the boat on DVC specific items. People like to have items from Disney, that they cannot get everywhere. That is why so many AP holders in CA complain that there is not a lot of park specific items anymore, everything is the same as FLA. As such, they stop buying items altogether.

We've been members for 11 years and I will buy about anything I can get my hands on with the DVC logo. Unfortunately most of it is the same trip after trip. We already have most everything on the site that thesupersmartguy listed. We have never seen a catalog. So it would have had to been over 11 years since they tried. Goodness, there weren't many members back then. I can't believe that ABD sells many items on their site. But ABD has a web store. I do agree that Disney normally will bite off about anything that will make money. But they are clearly dropping the ball here. The guides we've spoken with agree. If they would set up an online store and change styles from time to time, I just can't believe they wouldn't make money. Especially since the majority of members probably wouldn't blink twice at paying $40 or $50 for a polo. I know that some resorts have different items. But I get tired of wasting my time going from DVC resort to DVC resort trying to find something different. This trip I won't be doing it. I will have my grandkids with me. So if BCV doesn't have anything new, I'll just have to go without. I guess if they don't want my money that bad, I'll just spend it at Coldwater Creek! :thumbsup2
