Member Getaways - Does it work

As we are looking into the DVC one of the questions we have is around the Member Getaway program. The Disney resort portion of the DVC is attractive by itself, but the Member Getaway portion would also be a plus for us.

I have had good luck getting help from this board so I am coming to the group once again.

Does the Member Getaway work? The points chart shows that 160 point gets you a one bedroom for a week at high season. That seems very reasonable. Is there a bunch of hidden costs that I don't see here?. How easy is it to book one of these resorts and generally how available are they?

Any information on this program would be appreciated.

The only fee we had to pay was the $95 fee that is well explained on the DVC site. We got a gorgeous, 1 bedroom, ocean front in Cabo for 7 nights for 160 points.

There is another discussion going on over on the Mousecellaneous board on this same subject. The consensus on using DVC to exchange out is that it's not usually as good a value as other options.

Also keep in mind that the exchange system itself is a perk which could change or go away with the stroke of a pen.
