Hi,

This board has been so helpful with my questions, but I have another one...

I read that there was a DVC Member Cruise in 2003. Did anyone here take that cruise, or remember what the points were to take it? I'm really curious if that one cruise required less points than what is listed in the DVC literature.

Also, is there another Member Cruise being advertised at this point and if so, when?

I'd appreciate other feedback about additional member benefits that y'all have taken advantage of (besides being able to go HOME a lot!), i.e. discounted park tickets, etc.

Thanks!

I'm sure you'll get some feeback. Many people had a great time. Just wanted to let you know that it wasn't "fewer" points -- I think it was more. This covered additional activities and gifts that were part of the cruise.

That was the first cruise and it was a hit. I'm sure they'll do it again in the future.

They recently held the second ever member event around the opening of SSR. Once again, the tickets were pricey but those who attended seemed to have had a blast. They had events like after hour use of MK and Epcot.

There are some rumblings that we may get a better park discount. Right now we only get 10% of LOS passes. These don't work well for many DVC'ers who prefer AP or Park Hopper passes since we go so often.

For the member cruise, were DVC members able to pay cash instead of points, or partial cash/points, instead of using all points?

Here are some links to threads recapping the Member Homecoming held back in May to celebrate the opening of SSR:

As the event was approaching, many people complained about the short notice given (only about 6 months), and others thought the pricing was a bit out of whack. Those who did attend posted largely favorable reviews.

We elected not to attend the MH, but I think we join all members in hoping that DVC will learn from some of the MH mistakes and continue to present members with similar events on a regular basis.

We were able to get in a room on the 2003 cruise - same points as what was listed - no decrease due to DVC. We did get a gift every night on our bed. If they have it again - I would greatly recommend if interested to call the minute the phone lines open up as I sat on hold 1 1/2 hours for an inside cabin. I would go for a balcony next time - room was nice but I found I was clostrophobic (sp?). There might have been other extras that I was not aware of as I have never cruised before. I vote for a better discount on tickets. It would be nice. The last member event I thought was expensive - I already had my October trip planned when that was made available. Not sure I would have jumped at it anyways but I certainly would the cruise again. We had a blast.
