Member discounts for cash ressies

Anyone else get more than 25% through member services (not AP or code)? It's surprising they would give 40% off so many months ahead.

Just curious, but what if you book the room using your DVC discount of 25%, then later on a code comes out and the room is cheaper, can you convert your same reservation to the cheaper rate? If its no, then if you cancelled your original DVC cash ressie, then immediately booked with the code, would that work?

For our next trip, we have extra family coming with us and I was thinking of renting points for them, but maybe I can use my DVC discount, and then look for codes later, but I do not know how this will compare to renting. TIA

Officially, in order to get the discount, the member would need to be staying in the room in question; that is what MS told me.

If you get a code for the room rather than DVC discount, you would be working thru CRO rather than MS. So your Points and DVC discounted ressies would not be linked to your CRO ressie, and could necessitate a room change.

You cannot convert your same reservation to the cheaper code rate. In fact, you're dealing with two different reservation systems. Member discounts are handled via member services while the various codes, like AP or Disney Visa, are handled via CRO. Even canceling your member discount to free up the room does not guarantee that it would then be available at the code rate via CRO, since the number of rooms available under these various codes is always limited in some way. In fact, it would most likely not be available that way, particularly if there are any members on a waiting list for such accommodations.

I would think you would be able to do it just the opposite. If you saw a code come out that was a better rate than the member discount why not make a ressie with the code & then cancel the one with the member discount?

Of course, I wonder if you would have to move in that instance.

I had a points reservation this past Sunday to Thursday nights, I have an AP rate for tonight at 30% off. I had to go to the front desk this morning, get new keys & parking permit, basically go through the entire check-in process. I was able to keep the same room (although they will tell you it's not guaranteed. I doubt you would have to move unless it is a high occupancy period and you have a highly requested room). We did get full housekeeping today.

Last year I used the 25% member discount, we didn't have to check out and back in, we got keys and a parking permit for the entire stay. No extra housekeeping.

What is the cancellation policy for cash reservations made through MS with member discount? I don't want to borrow points until I'm sure that we won't need them for next year, so maybe a cash discount reservation might be better for me - if I decide to borrow the points after all, could I then convert the cash res to a points res?- anyone ever do this?

Cancellation must be made more than 5 days before check-in. Also, the deposit policy is very generous. You do not need a paid deposit to hold the reservation, but you do provide a credit card number. Much better than the CRO policies.

Just did a cash ressie for a Friday night in the middle of our trip, and it's just as Debbi B and Ralph&Pam have said. Member's Services took my credit card #, but the card was not charged until I checked in. There was a 5 day cancellation policy.

I was guaranteed that I would not have to change rooms, and my various reservations were all linked together. Also did NOT have to check in/out again.

I was told several times that if I booked through CRO they would note that and try to keep me in the same room, but would not guarantee it. Also, would need to stand in line and check in/out. CRO also needs to make a note on that reservation to connect it to the points reservations.

I decided to pay $20 more for the night (than the AP rate), with a Member's Discount and not have any hassle with worrying about switching rooms. Since our cash stay was in the middle, it would have meant checking in/out twice and having to worry two times about possibly moving. Others have posted that they had an AP ressie and were lucky and didn't have to move.
